Saturday, January 19, 2013 4:46:50 PM HolyGod No, it makes perfect sense because in the USA more people are murdered with hammers and clubs of some form than with rifles. It is the obsession with crimes just because of media attention and on knee-jerk responses that would do nothing to prevent that crime (such as the idiot Obama's laughable executive orders) that makes no sense. |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 4:15:07 PM tobacco's and alcohol's only purposes are to kill people, yet they're legal Those are self-ingested. They aren't used to kill others. And when it's found they do (like in the case of 2nd hand smoke), guess the eff what?! We pass laws against that! See how easy that is? |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 3:54:03 PM "guns have no purpose but to kill people" Language and logic are important: A gun may be used to kill. It's not guaranteed its use is against a person. @tedgp That is an exaggeration. Mexico outweighs the US by 5 times. The US outweighs the rest in >>recognized<< "mentally ill violence" incidents. Doesn't even mean US has more mentally ill people per scale.

Saturday, January 19, 2013 3:53:57 PM @tedgp: Edumicate Your Sorry Self Keep in mind that the USA is the 3rd largest country in the world (population) so YEAH the "raw numbers" are high, but it's "per capita" that is important. |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 3:53:38 PM The fourth panel will make perfect sense with about 30 more bodies strewn about & also an additional panel showing the character with violent history not able to buy a gun.

Saturday, January 19, 2013 3:43:03 PM @earplay: Yeah, Burroughs seems an unlikely source of wisdom, but he was a really smart guy! He loved cats, guns, drugs & booze. "Assault Weapons" are ALREADY illegal! Or very, very hard to get. Background check, 1 year wait, super-clean record & etc. Clip size? How big is "too big"? 30? 20? 10? 5? 3? If 3 men break into your home, and you have time to grab 1 gun, it had better have 15+ bullets in it because you'll likely run out before you've managed to stop them all. MOST mass killers do NOT use "extended clips" because they're bulky. Hiding a pistol with an enormous clip isn't as easy, eh? Plus they just have 2 guns and 4 clips, reloading as neccessary, since they choose GUN FREE zones and no one will shot them... |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 3:35:30 PM @andrew155 it seems youa re completely ignoring the fact that the US has the highest number of gun crimes anywhere in the world. You talk about "deadliest shootings" that were pretty obviously committed by an insane person, yet you fail to mention the frequency of said crimes. |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 2:59:07 PM Europeans, please change. Actually, I don't mean that. I don't generalize a population like you do, malikymoo, and I don't think my culture is superior. But in terms of shooting rampages go, why is Europe considered so much better? The most deadly shooting ever was in Europe, in Norway. Out of the top 5 deadliest school shootings, only two were in America - Newtown and Virginia Tech. One was in the UK and the other two were in Germany. So even if things were better in Europe, rampage shootings aren't really that much better. There have been mass shootings in the Netherlands, Belgium, France...even the UK recently. In the Alphen aan den Rijn shooting, the shooter even had a so called "assault style" weapon. Basically, get off your high horse. |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 2:34:34 PM @5Cats WS Burroughs!? I always base my reasoning on an old man whose brains have been fried by drugs (irony, no sarcasm, sorry). I've had weapons since I was seven years old. I've hunted and been on an Army Combat Rifle team (for marksmanship, been a cop) and worked at a lot of hard labor, urban and rural. I hope that covers it for slut etta (protection from varmints?). If you are rural, you can't beat a legal shotgun. There is no need for assault weapons and high cap magazines to be available to the general public. 5Cats, when I was in special ops, I was never issued matches or a home-made bomb for combat. Maybe you should make your views known to the military. They are always looking for more efficient tools of the trade. Wonder why they don't use your suggestions? |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 2:29:13 PM Oh look, we're continuing to ignore the fact that some rules and laws make things exceptionally easier for people inclined to do so to take dozens of lives at a time, without even thinking about how we could responsibly and reasonably limit that (you know, like we do with cars, through insurance, learning requirements, licensing and age restrictions). But, by all means, blame the people trying to be responsible and save lives. |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 2:25:59 PM Oh look, we're continuing to blame inanimate objects rather than taking personal responsibility for the society that we live in. Let's blame others for litter on highways, too, because I don't litter, so it's not my fault, nor is it my responsibility. We should also blame the economy for so many people going hungry in our nation, because I have a job and I am fed. It is sad how isolated we are in our society, taking no stock in our fellow people. It is not the job of our fractured government to take rights away in order to keep us safe from each other. No, it is our job to give a crap about those around us. But, since we are all afraid to do anything differently than we have for so long, let's just go on blaming guns. I mean, why not? The government obviously knows what's best for me and how I should live my life. |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 2:24:54 PM Liberals mostly aren't trying to take guns away. Why do you guys keep repeating that lie? Liberals mostly are trying to limit the kind of guns that can kill multiple people in seconds flat, trying to ensure proper background checks, trying to ensure proper licensing (you know, like we do with owning a car). I guess if you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes your boogie man? And, of course, we needs guns with 100 round clips of armor piercing bullets to protect us from teh boogie man. |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 2:20:41 PM Because arson and bombs never hurt anyone... Mass killers will use what methods they want, you cannot stop them by taking things away from LAW-ABIDING citizens. "Every time someone gets shot, the liberals want to take the guns away from the people that didn't do it!" - WS Burroughs |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 2:20:10 PM @etta No, if you were really convicted to kill someone you wouldn't need a gun, but what about all the people who use them to kill someone when they hardly have the will to do it themselves. Guns make the act far more easy, as they are, first and foremost, tools of killing. Would you for instance, say you have the right to own rocket launcher? Of corse if you want my opinion I'm actually for gun ownership. We need to stop making things illegal out of fear that someone might get hurt again, and just live with the fact that there are stupid people around. Who are simply going to do really stupid things. Nobody needs to be punished because of this. And so's you guys know, because this seems to be the go to argument around here, the word liberal and conservative get thrown around WAY too much. Tired of it, say it Ironically, or sarcastically but it's not an actual response to some of the postes. I'm looking at both sides, By the by. |

Saturday, January 19, 2013 2:18:24 PM @jtrebowski: I remember it! The Republicans weren't happy with "The Brady Bill" at all! They managed to water it down and make the SO-CALLED "assault weapon ban" a temporary measure, that's why it passed. A lot of Republican arms were twisted, BY fellow Republicans. Y'all don't remember that? Next you'll forget "The Maine!" eh? Steve Kelly is the creator of this, here's his homepage! |
