I tend to stare at the screen with a distressed look
and swear a lot
and some more
then have a hippty ka ka boo fit
and throw my rattle out the cot

My boyfriend prefers the "quickly scribble your mouse around in circles until something happens" method.

I've always found that sacrificing a virgin helps, although the I.T. department are starting to ask questions about why their techies keep going missing.

Thanks for that Duckboys87, I've ctrl/alt/del many times because they said I should but I never knew what to do when I got there.

Some days I dream of kidnapping Bill Gates, sitting him down in front of my computer, and whacking him about the head and shoulders with a whiffle ball bat till he makes his half-baked crapware work the way he promised it would.

Actually, the best way is to hit Ctrl, Alt, Del, and open up the task manager.
Click the "Processes" tab and scroll down until you see the word "explorer".
If you look to the right of it, you'll see that there is a huge amount of memory allocated towards this process.
Left click it once, and click the "End Process" button at the bottom.

Nw you're computer will run smoother than IAB!! ... Which, incidentally, isn't all that hard.

isn't raging your anger for the gods to hear and angrily bashing the side of the monitor/case the generally approved method?

Actually, I've noticed on programs that I think aren't responding, but haven't said so, doing that will often get it to say that it is, or is not (well, it doesn't say if it's not, but doesn't say it's stopped).

That's the limit of my computer troubleshooting skills. Except I find swearing also helps.
