That's what people thought about cows, but then Mad Cow Disease came
along and we found out there are ground up bits of the animals in their
feed. Supposed to be easily digestible protean.
And chickens are scavengers that will eat anything. As a kid,
when we had to chop off a few heads the other chickens would go
crazy fighting each other trying to get to the
heads and eat them.
They're vulture-like. |

I've never had possum
but I'm told it's good.
I haven't either, but I've heard the best way to eat possum is to trap them live and feed them sweet potatoes for a week before you eat them. |

@oldollie, if carnivores taste so bad why not omnivores such as pigs or chickens?

@madduck:
its a shame humans no longer live in a manner that suits eating meat just 3 times a week. we would either have to fill our diet with carbs or fats, neither of which work well for our sedentary lifestyles.
sure, you could substitute the meat for soy bean or other nuts that are high in protein, but people can't afford that. |

Low in fat, but high in Shergar.
Tesco's beefburger walks into a pub ... (I'm sure you can guess that one).
These burgers are past their sell-by date. They're off!

Totally agree. I like meat, but I like to know where it comes from. Cheap =/= value.
Nothing wrong with eating horse as long as you know what you are eating and are happy with that knowledge.
As for omnivores like pigs, my mate raises pigs (he buys two or three piglets two or three times a year and raises then in the fields and woods around his house mainly feeding them on the local greengrocer's scraps and foraging in the woods. Once they are big enough to slaughter he sends them off and the meat is incredible. When I was at school we used to get cheap bacon which you just knew had been fed on fish heads and slop. It tasted of fish, which is not a good thing for bacon. An animal might be omnivrous, but what it eats will change the flavour. Carnivorous critters are bad eating.

personally i have no problem with the horse meat, but I do have a problem in it not being mentioned on the packaging. and also that it shows a clear problem with sanitisation at the meat handling places. |

@oldollie, if carnivores taste so bad why not omnivores such as pigs or chickens? Thought is is partly that you get fewer carnivores and they are expensive to rear so not a taste we are used to? Pigs fed on slops and scraps however taste great. |

OldOllie horse meat is really good,is very rich of iron and you can fell it in mouth. Horse meat gave you an incredible ammount of energy compared to cow meat and is less fatty. Probably you gave to your dog not a "noble" cut of horse meat. |

The Everyday Value Tesco burgers contained 29.4% horsemeat; meanwhile the others did only contain 0.1%.. It was just that one brand/batch that contained almost a third of horse meat.. |
