GuySmiley: I agree that laptops and desktops still serve a purpose. Most of the production work I do on a PC (Mac software is not always available for certain programs, and others are notoriously glitchy). I went with apple for my portable devices simply because of the desire to compose while away from the studio. I do mostly electronic music, so it didn't seem like so much of a stretch for a phone/tablet to find a place in my setup in general. In fact there are several faithful recreations of actual gear used by producers. I actually prefer the iKaossilator app to the KO2, and while I prefer the ESX to the iElectribe, it's certainly useful when synced alongside the aforementioned iKaossilator. If an MPC is more your thing, guess who just released a new app? Several synthesizer apps have proven to sound great alongside any other analog modelling synths, hardware or software. I can hook a MIDI keyboard up to my tablet to play, and access the editing parameters very easily on the tablet.

Well at least the iPhone was the first with capacitive touch screen...oh wait that was the LG Prada, funny how it looks oddly like an older iPhone...

Is anybody else getting sick of people always droning on about how Macs are better than PC's or PC's are better than Macs? Look at this guy's comment:

"Apple products are for people who strive for something.

PC products are for people who do something."

Nobody cares anymore! It's a machine you watch dratin' youtube videos on. Get over it and find some other menial bullpoo to whine about.

But yes, I don't think the maker of this graphic is older than 15.

@MrPeabody Apple Newton 1987, before Grid, before Microsoft, before Samsung. Sorry, but Apple was, in fact, first with tablets... I think. Does any know different?

@jaysingrimm - Real music is created with instruments, not cellphones & computers.

jaysingrimm: I think most people prefer to use a computer (laptop) to create videos/music/games than a cumbersome tablet made by anyone at this moment in time. While i have no doubt it will be easier and better in the future, laptops just have more power, more capabilities, and is just all round in general easier to use. I've owned mac phones and books, but won't again (too expensive for the quality of work (poor)). I used hackintosh for a while and i will admit that after i installed imovie on it, it got me started in making videos. But now i use adobe premiere on windows, inside a virtual box running on linux. With that being said, just because you haven't seen anything you like on android doesn't mean that nothing will come out for it. A lot of people use android now, and just as their sales have surpassed the iphone, you know their software will in due time. (more devs)

Everyone knows Moses invented the tablet!

Seriously though, I find it so funny to read all the criticism about Apple from people who have likely never really used one of their products.

When it comes down to it, different devices serve different purposes. If you just want to watch videos and surf the net, then buy an Android or something. If your like me and you use your cellphone and tablet to create music, then buy Apple. Android just doesn't have the PROFESSIONALLY made apps yet, by companies like Korg, Yamaha and Fender. Every music app I've ever tried on Android has been terrible!

Isn't that pretty much how Microsoft marketed Windows?

Although the roots of tablet computers go back as far as 1888, GRiD Systems Corporation and Samsung
should be at the top of that pic, not Microsoft.

"The GRiDPad was a touchscreen tablet manufactured for GRiD Systems Corporation by Samsung in 1989. It is regarded as the first tablet computer directed towards consumers. It was so successful it was used even by the United States Army. Jeff Hawkins went on to use the GRiDPad as a predecessor for his best known-invention, the Palm Pilot." - Wikipedia

Also notice that Apple didn't invent the small 'i' either.

Apple claims damn near everything in hopes that people won't contest that claim. Case in point, they were attempting to sue Amazon for trademark infringement over Amazon's "Appstore for Android" because they combined the words "app" and "store" but the case was recently dismissed by the judge.

@kja: It is not apple that claims it, it is worse: the apple adepts claim it. A lot of them act like they are in a sect or something like that and can't even accept that there might be other products that are at a same level as their own toys or let alone be better.
And don't try to discuss the chronological order in the evolution of tablets/tuchscreen phones etc because apple is the one and the only creator.

It's more the Apple fanboys who think Apple invented the tablet. I love my Galaxy Tab 10.1
