Sunday, January 13, 2013 10:20:52 PM either way, it's what it took to bring tablets into the market place and drop in price. |

Sunday, January 13, 2013 4:56:06 PM Lol. I guess I'd be mad too if I'd done something that FLOPPED and then someone else did it and it was revolutionary. THE REASON that all those other tablets never got recognition is because (for lack of a better word) they sucked. |

Sunday, January 13, 2013 3:32:04 PM whodat6484, the way you've just described that makes me want to listen to it. I like the idea of my musicians plugging into a beer-stained amp behind a wire mesh screen - not sipping a bit of red wine and plugging into a drating ipad. |

Sunday, January 13, 2013 11:27:49 AM @earplay Apple Newton 1987, before Grid, before Microsoft, before Samsung. Sorry, but Apple was, in fact, first with tablets... I think. Does any know different? Yes the whole world, except for Apple Fanboys knows different. Let me Google that for you (Sorry Apple didn't invent Google). According to Wikipedia (Nope Apple didn't invent Wikipedia either), The Newton started development in 1987, and was finally relesed in 1993. The GRiDPad was released in 1989, meaning it was most likely in development prior to '87 (my guess). Saying Apple invented Tablets is like saying Henry Ford invented automobiles. |

Sunday, January 13, 2013 11:22:58 AM @jaysingrimm - I wouldn't say I'm an "analog purist" but myself, and the guys I write & record with prefer it, only going digital when absolutely necessary. I use an old Marshall JCM800 head from the early 80's I found at a garage sale years ago and refurbished it. For the music I play you can't beat that, a solid-state amp won't cut it. I can pick out the "processed sound" and tell if what I'm listening to was made with amp/effects modeling software. (Guitar Rig/Zoom G2/Gearbox) Yeah, it gets digitized for CD & mp3 but I like to keep it pure analog until then. I don't use many effects so I have no problem lugging my pedalboard around to jam/rehearse/gig/etc. All I use is a Wah, Rotovibe, dirt pedal, EQ, and Analog Delay. So yeah, the only time I ever go digital is because I have to and there's no other way around it. |

Sunday, January 13, 2013 9:22:26 AM To be fair the only thing Apple excels at ( or at least did) is the operating systems. Take that away and theyr computers suck like the rest of them. When they released the iPhone one of the major selling points was the almost perfect ui controls. I own a Windows 8 tablet and an iPad. The Windows 8 one doesn't register the touch sometimes unlike an iPad that always does. That's it...the only difference. All the other things like apps, performance, etc. are the same. |

Sunday, January 13, 2013 7:42:27 AM Sunday, January 13, 2013 7:40:55 AM iPad is brilliant because of it's easy use. Got one for my aging mother in law and without any instructions she found wifi connection in her motel, found a restaurant , ordered dinner & had it delivered. The damn thing is so intuitive, so easy, and so versatile. My computer is in the shop and I'm using my iPad now.

Sunday, January 13, 2013 7:31:55 AM "No. Apple Newton was in the early 90s. Am I right? My little tribute to Steve Jobs..Think differently. " ------------ i think the campaign slogan was "think different!", which always offended my sense of grammatical correctness. but hey, you need to stick out. |

Sunday, January 13, 2013 6:30:19 AM cont. Credit where it's due..they make stuff that doesn't look like a pile of poo, but they've very rarely 'invented' anything...and certainly not tablet pcs, mp3 players, or smart phones. |

It's odd the amount of people convinced that Apple invented either the tablet pc concept, the smart phone, or the mp3 player... I do like my ipod classic, it does what it says on the tin and holds 160gb of music and family guy vids - but if I was buying again there are several players that do it better now for less money. Sunday, January 13, 2013 2:22:02 AM Whodat6484: Are you one of those analog purists? Do you still record on tape to preserve the analog sound, denying yourself the usefulness of software? I never understood this. Eventually it's going to be "digitized" to be put on CD or even further compressed into an MP3 or something right? Personally, I don't discriminate. I'll gladly use software or apps alongside hardware. I'll use analog synths along with modelling. I love the Zoom G2.1u just as much as the Electro Harmonix pedals. I can even plug my guitar into my tablet, thus cutting down the need for a huge pedal board. It all has a place. While I'll admit it can sometimes be a little tricky to get the mix just right, analog and digital gear can certainly be used together. Don't limit yourself, it only stunts creativity. On another note, are games like GTA Vice City, Devil May Cry, and the Walking Dead available on Android? Maybe the "Pro" apps will come to Android...I just don't want to wait. |
