@SPrintZ

The problem with your description of walking is that the potential energy to initiate a state of falling must first be achieved. To begin moving, we must first be at a state of rest. Therefore, we must gain the potential energy to begin the fall.

Your description of falling is only half of the story. Walking in its entirely is a coordinated combination of muscular propulsion followed by your controlled falling.

Your description of walking is akin to saying that chopping wood with an axe is only the controlled falling of the axe. If this were so, how then does the axe find itself in a position to fall?

SPrinz- sweetheart- I know arguing, debating is fun, but you have been at this for hours now, we are so far off the original point I worry we might come upon it from behind. Why don't you go and eat, maybe have a hot chocolate and chill out a fraction? Your fingers will be sore and, honestly, I think now is perhaps a good time to retire gracefully. Live to debate another day perhaps before things go sour. It may all get a bit personal shortly and no one wants that- it goes aginst the grain of good debate.

"Walking has been described as "controlled falling." Every time you take a step, you lean forward and fall slightly, and are caught by your outstretched foot. If you failed to put your foot forward, you would fall flat on your face. After your foot touches the ground, your body’s weight is transferred to it and your knee bends to absorb the shock. The front leg then lifts the body and propels it forward as the rear leg swings up to catch you again, and the cycle repeats. " - http://tinyurl.com/crzmuy8

I thought babies had a hard time learning to walk! Apparently adults do too!

For instance, if I am proven to be a completely screwed up individual then I will seek to fix it. But until that point I have to resume doing what I do. If someone indicates that something I am doing is wrong, then I fix it. I don't argue about it because it's not worth arguing over myself when all that someone usually wants is to be respected, or have their thoughts recognized. I don't give out respect like candy on halloween either. But I don't respect myself when it comes to being stubborn, or haughty, or full of myself. I don't think it's worthwhile to do it, and I won't indulge myself in being trashed off of my own ego like most men seem to do. I don't think I'm the best, but I could very well be the best--but so could you. On any given day in any time period we all could be the best, or the smartest, or whatever. It's just circumstances and a lot of luck that lands us where we are.

I guess you're retarded, because anyone with half a brain knows that walking is merely a controlled fall.

So you admit to having only half a brain then? I can see clearly now the rain is gone. *If you don't get it, try harder.

But you do because you're full of ****

I insist than I am not full of asterisks. This is a vicious rumor and nothing more.

we have shock absorbers in our knees because we have such a brutal way of moving

'Cuz walking is like, so brutal man. Ugh, I f*cking hate having to walk and sh*t.

Not having an ego doesn't mean one is humble. Not having an ego means that one isn't afraid of society consequences and what it means to be that identity. I have no I in my existence. I merely am.

You will never feel as free as I do because you've never seen what I seen, and you're going to be trapped by your own pathologies the same way I used to be. Resume your puerile game.

Your annotations are funny I guess, because none of those thoughts were implicit. I don't think I am better than anyone just because I have one idea that is better than theirs. Just that that idea is superior. In fact, I learn things from people who are 'bluecollar' all the time. They know just as much as anyone else. They haven't been spending all their time watching Larry the Cable Guy after all.

If you've ever seen a horse run then you'd know that a horse's feet all leave the ground at some points--you can say that the horse is having a controlled fall while at maximum speeds. It's still controlled. Humans have two feet so we do it all the time. Horses have a very different gait style since they are quadrupeds.

I think I'm done explaining how stupid it is to contradict this thought, because it's not even my own--this is a thought that was espoused by a scientist. Nearly every thought I have is referenced to someone with more knowledge of it than myself. So you can contradict me all day with your words, but you're not contradicting my rationality, logic, or the person I got it from.

Ladies and Gentlemen of IAB, it is with great pleasure that I present the "I'm So Awesome But Not Really 'Cause I'm Super Humble and Sh*t" list - powered by SPrinkZ! In quotes, you can find the actual words of SPrinkZ annotated by me within parentheses. Enjoy!

"You have an ego to protect. I don't (because mine can protect itself)."
"The stuff I was fed was of a much higher caliber and caused inhuman focus. (None needed)"
"I never asked to look like I was carved out of marble circa 400 B.C. (so I never will *sadface*)"
"I could demonstrate it (but your puny mind woulnd't understand), but it's really hard to show the evolution of language."
"My emotions aren't even remotely engaged in this argument because (real men have no emotions!)"
"I don't like being right, my friend. (I tried it once in the '80s, but did not like it.)"

Humans also clearly think in metaphor. We don't even think in terms of objects which is interesting. But I think that's just an artifact of our uncanny intellect. We can see anything as everything and thus apply new meaning to anything we want which results in complex adaptive behavior because those who fail to realize a better reality based on the environment fail, and those who see the more 'clever' reality are selected. The selection event never ends for intelligence, or anything.

Philosophy died at "I think therefore I am." After that it became a psychological exercise. It's a pitiful thing to be honest. It has its merits in guiding new thought, but it's not relevant to the new philosophy: science. Science doesn't make errors like old-school philosophy can. Science is hard and countable. Philosophy is a way to think, but science is a way to live. Very different things, but philosophy really pisses me off after a certain point. I can usually find flaws in any philosophy because they are all wrong. Even my own philosophy is wrong, but by what degree?

You're clearly oblivious to how locomotion happens for bipedal organisms. We have a ridiculous amount of muscles just to stabilize ourselves standing in the first place--we have shock absorbers in our knees because we have such a brutal way of moving.

okay- how is it that we are able to communicate a representation of external things. Not even sure where to begin here.... you sort of need to know what I am on about, and quite frankly I am not sure even I know what I am on about. Reminder to anyone who is tempted... do not do a philosophy degree- it gets terribly opaque around year 3

"You're not doing it right. I am sure of this. "

I guess you're retarded, because anyone with half a brain knows that walking is merely a controlled fall. When you move forward you fall into your next step. Stop showing how dumb you are and start obeying common sense.

"They are sufficiently different that only a fool would consider them to be the same exercise.

I've got a wonderful idea! I shall return in a few moments and hilarity will then ensue."

I suppose, but if you walk 3-5 miles and run 3-5 miles it's very different. But if you run 1 mile and walk 3-5 miles it's about the same energy output. They aren't that qualitatively different. You're just being especially stupid in this regard. Not that I fault you--you clearly have some internet reputation to protect.

Ahh, that's very fascinating. I always wonder if animals have something like intentionality to them...I imagine they do, but it clearly doesn't come from verbalization. Or maybe it does, but we just do not understand the syntax that they use.

I talk to my cat too much.

It's only relevant if the reader could interpret the way you are suggesting--but there is no indication that it would be that way

Stand up and try it you lazy slob (lol) - it's an obvious thing.

Both are controlled falls, but one is faster than the other.

You're not doing it right. I am sure of this.

You're not going to say that running is entirely different from walking, now are you?

They are sufficiently different that only a fool would consider them to be the same exercise.

I am officially on another planet...
So--- anyone here want to discuss marmalade making? Or gender politics... or Dretskes teleosemantic challenge to simple indicator theories ( that last would be VERY handy).....

Please refer to a Romanian Deadlift and a traditional Deadlift. By your logic, these are one and the same. Please remind me again of your weightlifting prowess! "

By my logic they are not so dissimilar that they couldn't be called roughly the same thing, but no they are different in the way that running is different from walking. Both are controlled falls, but one is faster than the other.

You're not going to say that running is entirely different from walking, now are you?

Does this not then imply that I am intellectually superior to you? Afterall, by definition, a bully must have a strength or power advantage over the other person. If I am an intellectual bully then, I must have more intelligence than you.

"This is nothing more than additional evidence that you have no knowledge of the subject. If they are the same thing, then why is it that, in the Olympics, a lifter using the power style would be disqualified? Furthermore, a lifter in a powerlifting competition would be disqualified for performing an oly squat. According to you, they are one and the same. "

That's like saying raisins and grapes are entirely different. You've not only missed the point, but you missed how I told you that you can be wrong. If you simply agreed I was right you wouldn't have kept burying yourself in a bad argument. But you do because you're full of ****.

That's why one is called an OLY SQUAT, and the other is called a POWERLIFTING SQUAT. The modifier in front tells you that it's just a modification of the same damn thing--not something different.
