Friday, January 11, 2013 2:17:36 PM Markust - saying you're agnostic doesn't reallly say much of anything at all. Theism is the belief in god or gods. When you add the prefix 'a-' to a term, this denotes lack of the subsequent clause. If you believe there's a god, you're a theist. If you don't have that belief - whether or not you assert that there *is* no god - then you're an atheist. It's not a belief you can ascribe to, but a simple description of your position on belief of gods. And as to your point about being wronged by religion: religion has never played any direct part in my life, so I've never been personally 'burned' by religion. However, I'm deeply offended by the lies, prejudice and hatred fostered by religions the world over, and in particular by the incredibly immoral attitude they have to morality itself, and the way they continually try to force everyone else to live by their perverted "morality". Humanity is wronged by religion, period. |

Friday, January 11, 2013 1:29:29 PM You can't conclusively prove something doesn't exist, (because that would take complete knowledge of existence) but you can weigh the evidence and decide whether something is likely to have an existence independent of your imagination or not. No good evidence for the existence of god has ever been presented, so the claim that god exists is not likely to be true, and belief in god is not justified. In my opinion, neuropsychology, evolutionary psychology, and sociology offer the best evidence against god. When you understand what the different modules of the human brain do, when you investigate the probable evolutionary history of those modules, and when you look at the way the structures of the brain influence (and are influenced by) human social functioning, god becomes a more and more obvious fiction. Friday, January 11, 2013 12:22:16 PM @Markust-that's the beauty of Carl Sagan, based on what is known it is a consequence of the pusuit of knowledge...I remember reading Cosmos and he never directly states lack of faith but it is an inescapable conclusion from reading that and his other books...very liberating |

Friday, January 11, 2013 12:20:30 PM You cannot prove there is no God. what you CAN show is that various claims made for God are inaccurate and show that the probability of a sentient, sapient God are very low. Human Gods are made by humans.... |

Friday, January 11, 2013 12:15:33 PM "If you have never read Carl Sagan or Richard Dawkins to truly test your indoctrination, than don't question why athiests are so sure" Why do you assume I have been indoctrinated? I can count on one hand the number of times I went to church for something other than a wedding or a funeral. I've watched a bunch of the debates between atheists and leaders of religious organizations. It always solidifies my views against organized religion but it never proves indefinitely that there is no god. Where is the proof that there is no god? Does Carl Sagan have that proof? That would be pretty big news. Again don't get me wrong because for most of the time I think the idea of a god is kind of silly. But other times I question it. What is this proof that that is no god? |

@ Andrew155 - with that logic, Santa and the Easter Bunny also exist. What are the odds of that? The same as if "God" existed.

Friday, January 11, 2013 12:09:40 PM Markust makes more sense than canusuck. There is no way to know. Not even Dawkins can enlighten us. Yes, not even him. But this link is largely a phantom menace. |

Friday, January 11, 2013 11:49:08 AM @ Markust, this is where religion breaks down as we are all athiests, we just take it one god further...If you have never read Carl Sagan or Richard Dawkins to truly test your indoctrination, than don't question why athiests are so sure |

Friday, January 11, 2013 11:35:08 AM I'm not sure there is or is not a god so I am agnostic. I don't understand why Atheists are so sure there is not a god. A lot of them just seam like people who were really burned by their religion and are going against the thing that wronged them. Why not just go against organized religion? That is the real evil. |
