@FoolsPrussia

One man with a gun can control 100 without one.
- Vladimir Lenin

Ordinary citizens don't need guns, as their having guns doesn't serve the State.
- Heinrich Himmler

History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjected peoples to carry arms have prepared their own fall.
- Adolf Hitler

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to own cars.

JuggaloReign - And you shouldn't even have that. Thomas Jefferson wrote to James Madison stating that after 19 years the constitution, and laws, will expire. And any continuation of the constitution and laws will be an act of force, not a right.

So bring that one out as much as you want. It turns out, it's not your ******* right.

If this past year has taught us anything thought, you ******* Americans are too stupid to know the difference between right and wrong, and you'd rather give morons, like yourself and 5Cats, and that other tossers, more guns that will ultimately be wrongly used.

You really are a country of pshycopathic retards.

Good work by the security guard. We still don't need assault weapons.

@Corydoras: As usual, you've missed the entire point of this event: NO innocent people were harmed BECAUSE a citizen (in this case a security guard) HAD a gun!
If ONLY the criminal had a gun? Who can say what would happen? What happened at Newton? ONLY the criminal had a gun, get it?

About the SRO: Sorry! As a Canadian I have never come across that term before! One news report even called her a "teacher" others a "staff member". NONE said "security guard" - that I came across. Most said SRO.

@markust: I think you have it backwards: the MSM is drumming stories that make Guns = Bad, NOT the other way around.
Do they do it just for ratings? Perhpas. Do they mostly want "guns banned"? Highly likely!
If the MSM wants people to support "gun rights" they're doing a very strange job of it!

he could have just been bringing in his new equipment for show and tell. did he leave a video of himself stating just what his intentions were? or do we just take their word for it. just my opinion but the only shooter was the guy who got the shot off first and why should we listen to him he is a murderer.

...could have been avoided.
But NO! Newton's school was a proudly "gun free zone".

Obama's children go to a school with armed security guards. "Ordinary" Americans? Not allowed to - if he gets his way!

Video is submitted seperately too. I've linked it twice already though.
*sigh*
Now for the comments...

It wasn't a staff member. It was a School Resource Officer. It's basically a cop that patrols the school. Many Schools have SRO's and no one has a problem with it.

Sorry!
The article & report are FILLED with mistakes!
AND I didn't notice that the story is from 2010 and was "updated" a week ago.

Here Is Raw Video

Which shows what actually went on. The "action" starts about 3 minutes in. Safe to watch: no one gets shot or hurt, the 9/11 call is played as well.

As you can see: the "staff member" was in fact a security guard with a fancy, "politically correct" title of School Resource Officer.
The police took over 8 minutes to arrive & stop the man.
This was made longer by the security doors, which kept police OUT for several minutes. The 9/11 call explains it.

Without a doubt, if that ARMED guard had not been there? It would have been much worse.
If an armed guard was present at Newton? PERHAPS that tragic event could have bee

all that guy was doing was using his RIGHT to keep and bear arms. is this not the same argument people have been using?

You have nailed cable news @whodat6484. "Control through fear" is how they keep a hold of both sides. Once a person is in a constant state of fear and agitation they will believe pretty much anything a trusted source says. And if that doesn't work, the pundits just repeat the talking point until it becomes the viewers own thought. At that point the cable news viewer becomes an angry parrot who goes forth and bothers their friends and family with ridiculous partisan BS that has no basis in real life. Every time I go on Facebook I have to hide at least one stupid partisan post. I hate it.

I think it's funny that the most outspoken gun control supporters are the ones with the least knowledge of firearms in general. Their stance comes purely from emotions and reactions to news headlines. Have you ever noticed that EVERYTHING you hear on the news is, for the most part, depressing/shocking/horrible/etc? They intentionally focus on the worst possible sh*t they can report on to keep you paranoid, thinking that every bump in the night you hear is a bad guy with a gun coming to kill you & your family. This is basically identical to the "control through fear" strategy used by... wait for it... wait for it... religion!!!

I'm willing to concede that in this case the guard being armed probably prevented something worse. I think armed guards in a school might not be a bad idea in American schools, I do however believe that arming the teachers and staff is still a ridiculous idea. I have seen that suggested quite a few times on this site now.

"Mass School Shooting Prevented In Tennessee by a staff member with a gun."

No no no no no no. The person that prevented this shooting was a School Resource Officer which is a police officer assigned to the school. This was not a staff member. Why do conservatives (who are caught up in opinion media) lie to get their point across? If the truth is not good enough maybe you are on the wrong side of the subject.

Columbine had a School Resource Officer assigned to the school the day of the shooting. I don't think anyone has a problem with this. I don't know of any school in my state that does not have one assigned. What is stupid is to do exactly what you are saying - arm staff members. That is beyond idiotic. We do not live in the wild west.

And yet today in California, a student opened fire at a school that normally has an armed guard. The guard was snowed into his house, and instead a teacher talked the student into surrendering.

"The citizens. That is ENTIRELY why we have the second amendment and the reason it doesn't happen."

so you think that armed citizens standing up against armed guards who tell them what to do is a good idea, right?
"Hey man, you can't park here, it's a firefighter zone" -- "Oh really? Tell that to my little friend here" -- "I got one too, on the ground!" -- "You get on the ground, don't threaten me or I threaten you"...

in addition to this, if he really was there to kill as many people as possible, he would have had more ammo, and also shot the guard in the minute long standoff before the officers arrived and just continued into the school. he clearly wanted something specific. and not kill (in his eyes) innocent guards or students. Probably revenge for something that his brother did to him or whatever.

"Sure in this case it might have prevented worse, but overall, who is to say that armed guards in every street won't abuse the "power" of their gun and force people to do whatever they think is right, because they have a gun, who could speak up against them?"

good for them, still no one of them should have guns in the first place and the liberal gun policies in the usa encourage people from a very young age that guns are necessary. I wouldn't want to live in a world where I have to send my kids from an armed bus into an armed school and have guns everywhere. Why do americans want to live like they are in a prison or a war zone? They really think that more guns make things better? Sure in this case it might have prevented worse, but overall, who is to say that armed guards in every street won't abuse the "power" of their gun and force people to do whatever they think is right, because they have a gun, who could speak up against them?

Link: Mass School Shooting Prevented In Tennessee [Rate Link] - By a staff member with a gun. Will THIS story get nation-wide coverage? Only the gunman died so no, it's 'not important'
