@5cats: The SRO didn't even have his glasses on at Columbine, fired about 6 shots at *one* of the attackers, who then went back inside where they shot a few more students, threw a few more molotov roostertails and then killed themselves when they got bored with it and were talking about "knifing people instead." What the SRO DID do was help one injured student get away from Harris. So yes, the SRO did help, but also did nothing to prevent that massacre.

@RobSwindol, no think that medal would go to the person that stopped you driving drunk - that would be a better analogy.

To claim that a mass shooting was prevented is pure speculation. That's like me saying that I prevented a 30 car pile-up on the highway last night because I decided not to drive drunk. Hell, I should get a fuqing medal every damn day!!!

1.) This story appears to be from 2010.
2.) It wasn't school staff that pulled a gun on the gunman, it was a police officer that had been assigned to the school as a resource officer.

All news articles should be this well researched and written. Nicely factual and completely unbiassed. Refreshing.

1/ the school might be gun free but the country isn't.
2/ who says anyone would be shot, let alone MASS shootings?

My proposals:

-For any gun owner, only they have full access to said weapon. Either it is kept in a certified safe which only the gun owner has access to, at a gun range, or on their person at all times.
-Proof of ownership comes in the form of a deed.
-Repeal the Hardy amendment banning fully automatic weapons.

This story does not advance the anti-gun, anti-constitutional agenda of the MSM, so no, it won't be covered by them.

@NAB,if the MSM gave a loose dry f*** about the event, they could rewrite the damned story.

THIS story shouldn't get nation-wide coverage because it is the most poorly written news article I have ever read. Did they hire an 8 year old to put this together? I don't even care about the shooting, I'm too distracted by the terrible writing...

Smoking caused Columbine? Naw...
The Two placed a huge propane bomb by the cafiteria's emergency exit, but it didn't go of. With that working, more would have died from the explosion & fire as well.

Also: didn't they suicide shortly after encountering the SRO? There were still 100's of students and they had bombs and ammo... and 2 more hours until Police finished clearing the building.

Again it seems that a "good guy" with a gun made things better, not worse.

The gun at the center of controversy is the Hand gun,and no one is talking about banning them.Chill,people.

According to the related article, the SRO was an armed deputy, a police officer.......she should have shot the suspect as soon as she saw the gun in his hand, instead of letting him push her all over the school, all the while pointing his gun at her and lord knows who else......she needs training or a new profession.......horrible handling of the situation.

"It's still a very "PC" title, eh? School Cop is too confusing?"

Total PC run amuck.

"Columbine: The SRO was absent that day (snowed in?) and the shooters did NOT have "high capacity magazines" but managed to fire almost 100 rounds each..."

The officer was not absent that day he just was outside watching the kids in the smoke hole instead of eating lunch in the cafeteria with the kids (where he normally was that time of day). Still he got in a gun fight with Harris.

@FoolsPrussia - In debates like this when I say "gun-control supporters" I'm referring to the most vocal advocates being the ones screaming to ban all firearms from private ownership. You should know that by now since that seems to be the only thing ever discussed on this f*cking website. There's nothing wrong with background checks, I even think there should be psych evals too. However, I don't think they should be banning the rifles/guns they don't like because they're big & scary, that's bullsh*t.

@markust: You are correct, I should have "lookeditup". My bad!
I was confused by references to her as a teacher & staff member, but she was a Police Officer? Full out? Ok then.
We have those up here! Usually in "bad schools" in high-crime areas.
It's still a very "PC" title, eh? School Cop is too confusing?

However: Newton? Still "gun free" and still NO SRO.

That does explain why one article said "the three officers then shot the suspect" when only 2 entered the building... I was puzzled!

Columbine: The SRO was absent that day (snowed in?) and the shooters did NOT have "high capacity magazines" but managed to fire almost 100 rounds each...

"I think you have it backwards: the MSM is drumming stories that make Guns = Bad, NOT the other way around."

Fox News is drumming stories that make Guns = Good. What's your point? Both sides are making their viewers less informed.

@5Cats, "As you can see: the "staff member" was in fact a security guard with a fancy, "politically correct" title of School Resource Officer."

She was not a "security guard" she was a police officer - a School Resource Officer like the video you linked to says. Google "School Resource Officer" you will see link after link of officers assigned to schools. As I said before I don't think anyone has any problem with police officers being assigned to schools. They have been doing this for years.

5Cats:<quote>Obama's children go to a school with armed security guards. "Ordinary" Americans? Not allowed to - if he gets his way!</quote>

Well he did sign a bill allowing CCW in national parks. But I'm sure HE'S COMING RIGHT FOR US!

@whodat: I was refuting your assertion that most people who support gun control know nothing about guns. How's this then? 74% of NRA members and 87% of non-NRA gun owners believe there should be universal background checks, yet that policy is opposed by the NRA itself. That is gun control, is it not?

He could have just been going there to teach kids about gun safety. Way to blame the victim!

@OB1969: The "Average American" currently CANNOT own "assault weapons" OK? It takes special permits, in-depth records check, a full year wait (iirc) AND MORE to even hope to buy one!
Legally, that is.

@Bremir: What "Jefferson wanted" and what the actual law is? Those are two seperate things, OK? Duh!

If gun-banners manage to repeal the 2nd amendment (legally) then that's that! It's a done deal, OK?

Then lawful citizens will be disarmed and criminals will still BE armed. Nice! Utopia awaits!

How do you know it was a MASS shooting if it was prevented? That's like saying "I prevented an infestation by killing a spider."
