Mass School Shooting Prevented In Tennessee

@SpermNinja: Yes, guns were used, and plenty of them! But I've read that a lot, perhaps even the majority, of people were killed by machette.

The mass-killing got worst when average people started hacking their neighbors to death: the armed groups on both sides were bad, but the sheer number of people running amuk was unimaginable.
Apparently, everyone in Rwanda owns a machette...

There were definitely firearms used in the Rwandan genocide. I imagine it might make murdering people with a machete a bit easier knowing that you had guys with AK47's watching your back.

@madduck: "Seems to be" is the key! Americans are not all identical, eh? There's a big difference between urban/rural, and guns is one of those.
Who owns more guns per capita? Rural
Who gets shot more? Urban!
% ownership of guns has nothing to do with % of being killed by one. Look at Chicago!

A Black, city dweller in a city WITH strict gun laws is 4X more likely to be killed with a gun than a white counrty dweller with LAX gun laws.

#1 In the USA: More gun laws has always lead to MORE gun crimes, every single time!

In Virginia the number of guns (especially in white parts of cities) has almost doubled in the past 10 years! The result? A DROP in overall gun crimes.
#2 In the USA: More LEGALLY OWNED guns has NEVER lead to more crime.

AS for mass shootings? Norway, UK, Germany and France have them too.

Ok, 5cats -thing is- there seems to be a strong correlation between gun availability and death by gun. Guns do make killing easier by far, you can kill more people from further away. As a country the US has lots of these mass shootings- kids, soldiers etc.. Surely you need to look at this and asses ALL the evidence to see how this could be avoided. The US country is awash with guns, kids have them, nutters have them- and there is evidence that banning them helps ( New York?) . However- every time there is a shooting all we hear is how MORE guns is the answer. I keep my nose out until I get American friends telling me my country is dangerous because we don't have guns, despite the fact we have very few gun related crimes. Now there is talk about turning schools into armed areas- SURELY you can see how drated up that is?????

<quote>McGovern1981: Tell that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. He's the start of the lemming parade.</quote>

I don't think you understand lemming behavior like you think you do. But otherwise, carry on.

Ft. Bragg Shooting:
#1 Most of the time? Soldiers on a training base don't run around with loaded weapons, eh?
#2 The killer knew the base very well! He knew where ALL the armed people were and avoided those areas.

So just like many others: he chose a spot where HE KNEW there were NO GUNS in order to carry out his mass murdering.

@madduck: It's true, most murders are done with pistols (in the USA).
However: The Democrats want to "ban assault rifles" (which are already banned).
Question: Why don't the Democrats demand that <pistols> be banned in the USA?

Some people like to jog, some like to drive "monster trucks"... others? Shoot at itty-bitty cirles with an AR-15.
It takes all kinds to make the world go around!

You can put rubber-padded tracks on a tank for driving on paved roads... of course they'd get stuck in the mud really fast if you went off the road!

REALLY?? Okaaay, well, I suppose it is horses for courses. Hunting for fun is pretty vile- but as long as you eat what you kill and no more than you need I can see the point, and it does get you out. Never realised people did much target shooting- but I suppose clays are popular- so maybe that is the same? just does not seem to have a point or purpose?

"So what do you do with a handgun? Rabbits? Pigeon??"

Not to jump to the other side of the debate, but my guess is he is going to say "targets".

I have fired my gun thousands of times. It has never been fired at a living entity.

Handguns are only to use on people

My pistol must be broken it's kille 0 people.

This would be people with hand guns, shotguns, and semi auto rifles fighting highly trained people with automatic rifles, body armor, grenade launchers, missiles, tanks, jets, bombers, etc, etc.

"you do realize people said the same thing when the Revolutionary War was fought?"

That was people with cannons and muskets fighting people with cannons and muskets.

This would be people with hand guns, shotguns, and semi auto rifles fighting highly trained people with automatic rifles, body armor, grenade launchers, missiles, tanks, jets, bombers, etc, etc.

Clearly that is VERY different would you not agree?

Yeah 5cats- you can- but good luck with that. the tracks destroy roads, and they don't fit down many roads either. Point I was trying to make was that no one actually needs a sub machine gun or a rocket launcher. There is a case for a rifle if you hunt, shotgun ditto. Handguns are only to use on people...It is illegal to shoot people. No one needs lots of guns, or lots of ammo. If you cannot kill with one bullet you should not shoot game. If you applied the same thinking to cars most gun nuts would drive a tank....

Is it legal to drive a tank?

@madduck: YES! Actually, it's perfectly legal! As long as it's cannon and machineguns & stuff aren't real, and it meets safety codes (lights, turn signals & etc).
And road-weight restrictions...
And you have a "tank driver" liscence...

There's a fellow who drives his to work in London (England) for fun! I used to have the video linky...

You are out of your mind if you think the people are going to be able to fight the military. That is a total fantasy.

I certainly hope it'd never come down to that but you do realize people said the same thing when the Revolutionary War was fought?

"One you couldn't hunt with them"

Valid point. Then bullets for hunting rifles could still be made, but would only function in the kind of rifle that would not be affective for mass shootings.

"helping keep the government in line with the people"

1. If you can take down a soldier and capture them how is that not effective?

2. You are out of your mind if you think the people are going to be able to fight the military. That is a total fantasy.

Problem is, those of us who actually like evidence etc tend to have manners- show our evidence and avoid ranting- and it gets boring listening to knuckle draggers screaming about their God given right to do what the hell they like.... so guess what. Sweetie...

Avatar John- I live in the UK. no guns= much safer. Those violent crimes include spitting, shouting ( assault) and yes- punching. What would you prefer- a 1 in 10 chance of a smack in the face ( painful but not fatal) 0r a 1 in 100 chance of being shot ( certainly painful- very likely fatal)

@HolyGod

No, They do have those kind of though. One you couldn't hunt with them which some people do actually depend on and two that would not be what the second amendment was about. It's a government power check a way of helping keep the government in line with the people.

madduck, they have pretty much done that in the UK. The result is that violent crime is higher than in the US and rising. In the US, where there are more and more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens every day, the violent crime rate has been dropping steadily for 20 years and is now at an all-time low.

Sorry, didn't mean to get all these pesky facts and statistics in the way of your emotional, clueless rant.
