Thursday, January 10, 2013 5:46:14 PM Coincidently, Im out to start trapping my first season this weekend. Luckily there are plenty of people that dont give a poo so I can make money. Wolf pelts are $300-900 right now! Wish me luck. :D |

Thursday, January 10, 2013 10:22:41 AM I eat meat, I wear leather and I've been known to catch a fish now and then, but fur is on a different level. There may be a few humane fur farmers but the vast majority of fur is sourced from horrible cruelty and the way the trade works there is no way to tell where the pelts you wear were sourced. Leather is a by-product of beef. Fur is fur. As Terry Pratcett put it,'The vermine is a small black and white relative of the lemming, found in the cold Hublandish regions. Its skin is rare and highly valued, especially by the vermine itself; the selfish little bastard will do anything rather than let go of it.'

Wednesday, January 09, 2013 10:24:59 PM or you could just wear chucks. like me. vegan freindly shoes :) They use animal oils in the dyes to color the chucks. They also use animal based oils to cure the rubber and make it more supple. There are very, very few things that aren't animal based. |

Wednesday, January 09, 2013 10:18:14 PM people still wear fur? I would point out that leather is a by product of the beef industry, so, unless we all want to become vegetarians, leather is probably here to stay. or you could just wear chucks. like me. vegan freindly shoes :) |

Wednesday, January 09, 2013 9:56:48 PM Yes. Yes I would skin a cat and make a coat out of it. Also, the "humane" society tortures and kills more animals in a year then the fur trade does in 10. |

Wednesday, January 09, 2013 7:38:36 PM @secuuritywyrm: Most people don't expect it to happen that way, but instead to gradually occur. But since you mentioned it, I would submit the following: "Defenders of slavery argued that the sudden end to the slave economy would have had a profound and killing economic impact in the South where reliance on slave labor was the foundation of their economy." "Defenders of slavery argued that if all the slaves were freed, there would be widespread unemployment and chaos. This would lead to uprisings, bloodshed, and anarchy." The Southern Argument for Slavery I think we both agree that the world didn't end when slavery was abolished, and that was clearly a moral wrong. |

Wednesday, January 09, 2013 7:15:15 PM "Awww, look at the funny hypocrite libretard in his leather boots. So if we scrape the hair off the skin it's okay?" Woody Harrelson is an ethical vegan, so I highly doubt he wears leather. I have a belt and a pair of shoes, and you would think they are leather if you didn't know they are vegan. |

Wednesday, January 09, 2013 5:13:07 PM Here's what a lot of animal rights activists don't understand: If right now we all went vegan, all the animals in captivity aren't going to be 'set free to roam as nature intended.' They'll be killed just the same, because their existence is paid for by their product. |

Wednesday, January 09, 2013 4:49:51 PM All I know about fur clothing is that during WWII the Akita dog was almost wiped out, because the Japanese army confiscated all the Akita dogs from the people to make coats for their naval officers. Which seems like a total dick move. If some dude from the national guard came and tried to take my dog away he'd get a shotgun pointed in his face. |

Wednesday, January 09, 2013 3:49:59 PM The china thing is true...just about the most horrific thing i have ever witnessed and i have seen some serious poo. On the downside I used to work in a meat factory.. did about one head every 45 seconds.. thats a whole lot of pelts that would just got to waste rather than used as my precious black leather jacket. |
