HolyGod-"This is CLEARLY a reference to the fact that some people "think" Obama was born in Nigeria"

Actually, it's not clear at all.

I just thought it was a badly worded pun.

HolyGod-"Considering....is racist. "

That's a lot of hoops you have to jump through to support your race card.

HolyGod-"hundreds of years of slavery"

No one alive today was a slave in the United States.

HolyGod-"segregation"

Amoung some of the older, sure.

HolyGod-"oppression."

Around here it's less 'oppression' than being reared to understand that they are a victim and continually taught the 'evils of the white man' by their parents and churches.

"I think the term "African American" is bullsh*t to begin with."

I'm with you. If I am called white I can say black. Really though if we're talking about someone from our own country why is race even brought up so much? There's actually very few times identifying a person by race is actually needed.

"The majority of the racists at this location comes from the 40%. "

There are racist black people. ABSOLUTELY. However let's look at racist white people and racist black people. Most white racists hate black people because they are black. Most black racists hate white people because of hundreds of years of slavery, segregation, and oppression.

I'm not saying any racism is excusable, but surely you agree there is a BIT of a difference right?

Funny how this isn't racists anymore, but when it was on a sign at a Tea Party rally the same people pretending it is not racist now were saying it was a liberal plant trying to make the Tea Party look racist. Which one is it? Can't be both.

Unless we can all start calling North-Americans Euro-rejects from now on, then Obama is African for sure.

"Besides being critical of Obama, what is racist about this t-shirt? Is he not African-American? Has he not been proven to be a habitual liar?"

"SO African is racist now?? "

African is not racist if someone is African. However he is American. African American is not the same as African.

Come on guys. This is CLEARLY a reference to the fact that some people "think" Obama was born in Nigeria and is not American. Considering Obama is the first president whose birth certificate has ever been an issue and he just so happens to be the first black one, yes. Yes it probably is racist.

"Aren't you the people that preach against sterotypes all the time or is it only when it fits your ideology?"

Not me. No way. I love stereotypes. They are hilarious.

However a stereotype is saying all republicans are fat old men with redneck beards, christian tattoos, and harley hats holding guns and wearing racist tshirts.

Saying a fat old man with a redneck beard, christian tattoo, and harley hat holding guns and wearing a racist tshirt IS a fat old man with a redneck beard, christian tattoo, and harley hat holding guns and wearing a racist tshirt is not a stereotype. It is just being able to see.

QueenZira-"haven't (nor has anyone else) said that this guy's shirt should be banned or censored."

Obviously you weren't paying attention to Magickrat.

QueenZira-"We've said it's stupid and repugnant, and so it is."

Stupid? Yes. Repugnant? Not really.

QueenZira-"No rights violated. At all. Period."

Agreed. And the beauty is that everyone has the right to agree or disagree.

QueenZira-"End of discussion."

Doubtful.

markust123-"go find one of your black co-workers and ask them if this shirt is racist."

Just did. He thought it was stupid, but not 'racist' (of course, he's more intelligent than most on this site).

I'm sure other's would find it racist, and a couple would even want to sue somebody (but then, they want to sue when they're asked to do their job, too). But they are not the judges of what is 'racist'.

I'll tell you this. Where I work, it's probably about 60/40 white to black. In each group you can find hard workers, intelligent people, dumbasses, useless people and racists. The majority of the racists at this location comes from the 40%.

Also, in this group, only about 5% would be for gun-control (if even that many).

"I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Nothing to do with feelings. At all. Period. I haven't (nor has anyone else) said that this guy's shirt should be banned or censored.

We've said it's stupid and repugnant, and so it is. No rights violated. At all. Period. End of discussion.

I think the term "African American" is bullsh*t to begin with. I know quite a few black people but they're not African American, and the ones whose ancestry can be traced back to the African continent have never set foot on African soil. I was born here, I'm American, they were born here and they're also American.

QueenZira-" not to accept the ignorant and untrue thesis that the amount of melanin in your makeup determines your worth as a human being"

IF that was what he was saying, it would be ignorant and incorrect.

But the shirt does not say that. It states two (2) things:
1) Obama is a liar.
2) Obama is an African (I can only assume he means 'African-American', as Obama is obviously not from Africa).

The first is proven true. The second is incorrect if taken literally, but correct it means 'african-american'.

The shirt does NOT say 'Obama lies because he's black'.

The person who made the shirt thought they were being clever, but was mistaken.

QueenZira-"Your rights end where the tip of my (or anyone else's) nose begins."

The quote goes 'The right to swing my fist ends where the other mans's nose begins'. It does not hold true with speech and your sensitive hears.

You have the right to be

@MeGrendel, go find one of your black co-workers and ask them if this shirt is racist.

Yeah we've got the right not to accept the ignorant and untrue thesis that the amount of melanin in your makeup determines your worth as a human being. And to demand that thesis not have any say in writing the laws for this country. Absolutely.

Now you can say whatever you damn well please, but don't expect not to be criticized for it. The free marketplace of ideas' natural selection weeds out the stupid through free reasoned discourse, but it will not coddle your poor bruised ego. Your rights end where the tip of my (or anyone else's) nose begins.

That's my point, the picture fancy posted is not a "typical" gun show where I live in the NY, NJ, CT area. They're for people who actually appreciate guns/rifles, their history and the craftsmanship that goes into them. The stereotype is that the only people who like guns are fat racist rednecks which is bullsh*t really. Even at the handful of shows I've been to in either the south or mid-west, douchebags of this guy's magnitude aren't as common as you're led to believe.

Magickrat-"Our forefathers didn't fight & die for our freedoms so some... "

...ignorant moron such as you could try and deprive those you don't agree with of their constitutionally protected rights.

markust123-"Since when do people have to be tolerant of racists?"

Ah, the old Race Card.

So, you don't have to be tolerant of anything you disagree with? Then you have absolutely NO right to demand tolerance of anyone else, for anything else.

Besides being critical of Obama, what is racist about this t-shirt? Is he not African-American? Has he not been proven to be a habitual liar?

(Is he a racist? Likely. Is the shirt automatically racist? Only to idiots who consider ANY criticism of Obama 'racist')

"Look at all the liberal tolerance below! Aren't you the people that preach against sterotypes all the time or is it only when it fits your ideology?"

Since when do people have to be tolerant of racists? If you are upset that people are associating this one idiot to the whole gun show crowd then you have a valid point.
