That all makes sense LordJim, I think the telling comment for me is repeatedly talking as if 'PoC' is one homogenous group when in fact there are different races in that 'group' with individuals that hate some people from other non-white races in a totally bigoted way. I think Martha needs to experience a bit more of the real world and not form all her views via internet bloggers. |

If you don't pre-judge people based on their race then how are you a racist?
Do you believe some 'races' are inately better at certain things? Well, there are certainly Nepalese who are evolved to absorb oxygen in high altitudes better than I can, that isn't racist.
Racism, to my simple mind, is the belief that certain skin tones, facial features, ancestral origins or genetic geography make a better or worse person.
Bigotry is the belief that class, culture, religion or lack of it, gender, sexuality, mental or physical ability, region, level of education or financial position makes you a better or worse person. (Obviously racism is a sub-set of bigotry.)
If you don't hold those views, don't beat yourself up. Noticing difference isn't racism.

If you want to see racism that would make OldOllie go, 'Whoa, dude. That's some heavy racism.' try the Gulf States. Or Japan. Or North Africa. Or the Indian sub-continent.
Now you could argue that a specific form of racism developed out of colonialism, with aspirational groups attempting to identify more closely with the ruling elite by degrading and distancing themselves from the most disregarded groups, but that would be, in many cases, facile.

I am racist, just as we all are. I am not predjudice(sp). I don't pre-judge people based on their race, that is what is wrong. Using "racist" for this reason is pretty stupid of people |
