Hey McGovern1981! Did you know that the percentage to eventually die from a lasagna overdoes for an Italian is 100% compared to an American??

I hope this becomes a meme; this has hysterical possibilities.

McGovern1981 for what i know results on math test are not expressed in percentage...so you are really near to have a 100% fail in your last sentence.

My sentence stand as it is.

... and it stands as unsupported, illogical nonsense.

Piperfawn got 0% on his math tests 100% of the time.

No kidding... and I thought the American education system was broken. Apparently, they don't even teach the fundamentals of mathematics anymore in Europe (or at least Italy).

Suddenly, the Italian fiscal crisis makes so much sense.

HumanAction "Let's break this apart, shall we?" Nha...we shall not. My sentence stand as it is. If you break it in two or more part as you wish is not my sentence. In my sentence there is not a before and an after,all elements are linked. This is philology,work that way sorry.

MeGrendel you are out cause you don't even try to add some interesting fact in this useless confrontation.
McGovern1981 you are still in,not for your logic but only because your photo is cute.
HumanAction you are in too cause at least you have done some "useless" math.

@piperfawn

Here is your sentence, so that there is no confusion:

well the percentage to eventually kill one of their family by accident with a gun by a gun owner is 100% compared to the 0% of a non gun owner

Let's break this apart, shall we? You say "the percentage to eventually kill one of their family by accident with a gun by a gun owner is 100%". What does this mean? This means that, according to you, every single gun owner will eventually accidentally kill one of their family members. If something is 100%, then it is absolute.

Then you say "compared to the 0% of a non gun owner".

The first statement is where you err. You claim that 100% of gun owners will eventually accidentally kill a family member. Clearly, this is incorrect.

piperfawn-" you still fail to understand the logic of my sentence"

No, you fail to understand that your sentence does not include logic.

@piperfawn

you still fail to understand the logic of my sentence

Only because your sentence fails to be logical.

Let's be even more consistent with your statement then, shall we?

Let's assume half of the households have firearms and the other half don't. The households without firearms have a 0% chance of being accidentally killed.

Using the numbers above, adjusted for half the population, that's still only a 0.04% chance over the course of a life.

0.04 != 100. You're still wrong...

HumanAction lol,keep working with your number but you still fail to understand the logic of my sentence. whodat have understood it also if he come to a conclusion without including what is between birth and death.

@piperfawn

Challenge Accepted. Let's do some Maths!

So, there are 313,914,000 US citizens (Google Public Data 2011). There are 851 accidental firearm deaths in the US each year (CDC 2011). So, a very simplified probability of being accidentally killed by a firearm each year is 1/368,877.

Let's then consider average US lifespan: 78.2 years (Wikipedia). Assuming that the probability of being accidentally killed by a firearm in a year remains constant throughout your life (a very simplified explanation), then we have a 1/4,717 chance of being accidentally killed by a firearm throughout our lives.

This is a 0.02% chance. Your 100% chance is a bit off.

Of course, this is statistically simplified; the true result would need to account for population change, lifespan change, probability of death at an age... so on and so forth.

anyway in my opinion birth is the leading cause of life. Death come just after life.

@piperfawn - Well the percentage of people that are born who will eventually die is 100% compared to 0% of those who are not born. Let's ban child birth because technically, birth is the leading cause of death for all living creatures.

HumanAction what you don't seem to understand is the word "compared" in my sentence and how this word is linked with the percentage i expressed.

No it's not... I don't think you understand how percentages work. If what you say were correct, hundreds of millions of Americans would die each generation due to accidental gun discharges.

@rickwhite - So, by your logic, everyone who has a legally owned and registered gun will eventually kill one of their family by accident. You might want to try thinking before writing a comment.
