"most people are NOT ugly or fat, you've been listening to the media too much."

I disagree and not because the media says so. I go outside. Most people are ugly and/or fat. ESPECIALLY in the Midwest. Perhaps your definition of ugly and my definition of ugly differs. That's fine. But don't define my perception.

Lillian: Your second comment contradicts the other, so I'll leave it at that. You are at least partially 'Bi' as I said before.

LordJim: People can 'believe' they are born that way, even when their mentality has nothing to do with their genetics. Cat Man was not born a cat, but he certainly believed he was, as an adult.

'That's because being 'straight' is normal.'

Well, I think at covers it. I'm convinced. Why didn't you explain that earlier, it would have saved so much time? Tautology is such a killer.

Extreme body modification choices are not remotely the same as being gay. And you have avoided the point that people are gay even when that is seriously life threatening. And, as far as we know, have been gay in all all cultures and epochs.

CJ, this link might help you understand. I scored a 1.57 which is between strictly heterosexual and strictly bisexual. Or as the test puts it: Between "predominantly heterosexual, incidentally homosexual" and "predominantly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual"

CJ, no, that does not make me "bi". You're trying to label me as something based on your preconceived notions of sexuality without realizing that sexuality is indeed a sliding scale. If I think lesbian sex is gross and can count on one hand the number of girls I've found appealing enough to want to *date* them, then I'm not "bi" which implies I find a great deal of girls attractive and I want to be with them, which isn't true. Being 99% straight and 1% gay doesn't make someone bi. It just shows that sexuality isn't clearly defined and we can't control who we're attracted to, and just from time to time it may end up being someone with characteristics we don't normally find attractive.

LordJim: That's because being 'straight' is normal. Most people never 'decide' on being normal in society or their personal lives, it's just natural human instinct. One has to decide to be 'different' than the norm, just like this person that decided to have their ears altered.

Remember that guy that believed he was a Tiger? Altered his body, teeth, added tattoos and even cheek implants? He believed he was born a cat, but it was all still his choice to be different.

Oh, not the minority moaning. Whites comprise 72%+ of the US population, rising to 94% in Vermont. In only 4 states are whites not an overall majority and only in Hawaii and New Mexico are they not the largest demographic.

99% of Americans are immigrants or descended from immigrants, isn't it time to get over where they were immigrants from?

I don't recall choosing to be straight and I have no reason to think anyone chose to be gay. There are a lot of gay people even in countries where it carries the death penalty, which would make it an odd choice.

It's not as though at a certain point in development you get to choose beween three doors - gay, straight, bi - and that's it, all nicely categorised.

Do you really think that you could sit down and conciously decide to become gay? Try it, we'll wait.

Any luck?

Lillian: If another woman gets you 'hot', that would make you 'Bi'. There are a lot of people like you and Gerry that are. Some call themselves straight others call themselves gay and others change their minds on who they 'are' based on who they are partnered with at the time. But it's still a choice.

HG: most people are NOT ugly or fat, you've been listening to the media too much. Also a lot of 'hispanics' pass for being 'white' now and do so. Just as there are a lot of 'white' people that have ancestors that were black/african/asian/native/etc.

You're a 'minority', I believe, if you believe yourself to be unfairly discriminated against because of your looks or heritage. What someone does in their bedroom doesn't single them out when it comes to getting a job, getting into a school or voting.

I've never seen an application (of any type) that's asked for gender preference, whereas I have seen them ask for race and gender.

"Not to belabor the issue, but this issue of whether one is born 'gay' or not is the crux of their claim of minority status. Otherwise fat people and ugly people could also claim minority status as well. "

1. People are born gay. That debate is pretty much over for anyone that isn't a moron.

2. That statement makes no sense as ugliness in most regards is something you ARE born with.

3. Ugly people and minorities can't be a minority in this country because most people in this country are ugly and fat. They are the majority.

Crakr - here in California the word "minority" has no legal definition outside the courts. The gov'ment banned it and replaced it in all government literature and criteria with "Person of Color". Which means a "minority" is anyone but a white guy. Hispanics make up 58% of our population but are still a "minority" 'cause you and I are transparent.

If gender can be a scale, how can sexuality not?

"If it's a 'sliding scale' then it's a choice"

How in the world did you draw that conclusion from that premise? All "sliding scale" means is sexuality is different depending on the person. It's not a "you like all guys, you like all girls" thing. This is true amongst straight people even. You probably find certain things attractive that some other straight men don't. I'm straight but there's one girl I'd date if the opportunity arose (and it wont, for many reasons, one of which being that she's a celebrity) and a handful of other girls I find insanely attractive. But I'm not bi, I just can't control who I'm attracted to and it's not surprising that there's a very tiny amount of girls who I find attractive in the same way that I find a large amount of guys attractive, considering the amount of diverse people on this planet.

mamba: Since you're from Europe you don't know the legal definition of what a 'minority' is here in the United States. Because of laws like affirmative action and civil rights, people's race is defined rather weirdly with a "one drop" rule. Autism isn't defined as a minority, it's defined as a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Since 'gayness' is not based on skin color, heritage or even genetics (that we have been able to 100% positively discern) it's claim of 'minority status' is a rather spurious claim. At least fat and ugly people could actually make a claim of 'minority status' based on genetic cause(s) and obvious visual appearance.

Off topic:I had a hard time understanding how elvish/vulcan/whatever ears turned to gay and fatness. But i guess someone is just a bit touchy on a special little topic.
If anything it should be a conversation about the existance of free will. Find the answer to that one and the fat and gay question should be answered aswell.
Crakr, lay off the book and lay off caring about very harmless, yes harmless, choices of other people. Please.

On topic: Whatever float this persons boat. You have to be a certain kind of "freaky" (in the spanish sense) to appreciate and have the balls to do this. Rock on.

@CrakrJak

Gender is a scale, does that mean there can't be a gender minority? Race is a scale, does that mean there can't be a racial minority? Autism is a scale, does that mean there can't be an autistic minority?

In summation, you're argument sucks donkey phallus.

spannerbulb: sexuality is a sliding scale..

If it's a 'sliding scale' then it's a choice, if it's a choice it doesn't meet the standard of legally qualifying as a 'protected minority'.

Not to belabor the issue, but this issue of whether one is born 'gay' or not is the crux of their claim of minority status. Otherwise fat people and ugly people could also claim minority status as well.

Btw, there is more evidence for a 'fat' gene, than a 'gay' gene scientifically.

Crakr -- the fact that you are so worried about Gerry's sexuality is making you loose hetro cred. Just saying.

I don't want to know anything about Gerry's sexual desires.
