I'm starting to think every doorstep, every car, and every classroom should be video-equipped.

Not being from the Houston facility my knowledge of their procedures is more based on how my facility handles this type of situations.
Accusations of theft are taken seriously and investigated internally. As one person already stated, the teamsters would have to represent someone in such a situation, though it is doubtful a member would get his job back. I found in another article, that the man contacted customer service and had not talked with the UPS facility in Houston. Depending on the time frame the Security people in Houston might have only just been informed by customer service, when he posted this video. (CS can't do anything about the theft since they not actually located in the Houston facility). An investigation was likely already underway to find the employee and determine if he was seasonal or not. (seasonal are not teamsters and easier to deal with)

Vizz - he DID take it up with UPS first, but they were uncooperative (if you've ever tried to deal with them or the postal service folks, you know what I mean). After that road led to a dead end, THEN he posted it online. They contact him right away at that point.

Firstly, more fool you for giving permission to leave an ipad on the doorstep.
And secondly, don't mention that he was black or else you'll be called a racist.

slander would involve something that isn't true Vizz.... not something that has been blatantly caught on security footage.....they'd be even worse off than heather mills in court, as at least she had a leg to stand on.
Also, the guy didn't immediately put it up on youtube...he contacted UPS first and told them what had happened and they didn't really give a poo - so he posted the footage on youtube and funnily enough they suddenly started giving a poo after all and promised they'd give him a new ipad that day.
All in all the employee and UPS were drating lucky because the guy didn't press charges for theft in the end.... the guy, who was only a seasonal worker anywhere just got fired. If it had been me I'd have totally pressed charges whether I'd got it back in the end or not.

The video is true. Not only would UPS not be able to win a law suit (even here in the UK, let alone the USA) but they would suffer far more from the Streisand Effect than they are now suffering.
Screw them. Parcel companies are not careful with your stuff. I know, having worked for a contractor to another one. The systems they have in place do not allow for careful handling of parcels. Of course this is a good hint never to send anything fragile by a parcel service.

Can't UPS file a lawsuit against the people who put this video on youtube or something? I don't really see the point in putting it online other than to slander UPS. If you have evidence of a UPS employee stealing, take it up with UPS, no need to publicize it.
