There was an armed guard at Columbine the day of their shooting. More guns and more security is not the answer. We as a nation need to take better care of our mentally ill.

1 armed guard < 30 armed teachers and staff.

You are correct, though about getting the crazies off the street. Who was it, though, that made it nearly impossible to involuntarily commit mentally disturbed people until AFTER they do something violent. Who could it be, who could it be? Oh, I don't know...was it... LIBERALS?

@5Cats "If the liberals were to put forward a real "gun control" bill? Conservatives would welcome it!"

If the conservatives know what they will welcome why can't they outline it and save all the guessing, or is it a case of endlessly trying things only to be told, well that's not quite right but if you come up with something different we will agree.

Not my views about gun control but about political game playing.

Thank you @GRadde, I think?
I did not know about "nocebo" that is truely news to me! But the Greeks of ancient times thought up everything!

Nice to see you around bro! IAB gets more polarized every day, neutral voices are refreshing to say the least.

I'm afraid you got those two slightly mixed up. Panacea was the greek goddess of universal remedy, a cure-all (so nothing to say on that point), but placebo means "I will please", or fake cure if you will, but these are no more related than the oft forgotten nocebo, "I will harm", the mirror opposite of the placebo.

I agree largely with your conclusion, but it's a non sequitor from your arguments.

@OldOllie is correct: ALL "gun laws" focus on law-abiding citizens and NOT on criminals.

If the liberals were to put forward a real "gun control" bill? Conservatives would welcome it!

But they never do. It's all "smoke & mirrors" from the left...

"Mirrors are a negative space with a frame..."
(obscure song lyrics game...)

Most reasonable people think it's impossible to truly ban guns in this country. The point is to make them less accessible for dangerous people.

Then why is it that ALL the gun control laws ever passed only make guns less accessible to law-abiding people?

@FP: Nice one! But it concludes that the Supreme Court Justices Reagan nominated are mostly Pro-Gunners, and instrumental in shooting down 2 terrible laws.

Like I said, and Reagan said too:

“In my opinion, proposals to outlaw or confiscate guns are simply unrealistic panacea.”

Panacea means "cure all" but is also closely related to "placibo" which means "fake cure".

Thus "gun laws" are "fake cure-alls".

"Perhaps that's because he was young and foolish, and got smarter as he aged?"

And after he was president, he came out in favor of gun control measures again:

'Reagan joined former Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter in a letter published in the Boston Globe that called on Congress to pass a ban on assault weapons. Later, in a letter to Rep. Scott Klug, a Wisconsin Republican, Reagan said the limitations proposed by the Assault Weapon Ban “are absolutely necessary” and that it “must be passed.”'

You can't argue with freedom.

Of course you can. You just can't do it without sounding like a fapping liberal f***tard.

Let's bring our forefathers to present day and ask them if what they meant by:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

... was for every man, woman an child of every background, criminal record and mental condition to collect and use unlimited quantities of fully-automatic laser-guided heat-seeking armor-piercing biological and nuclear concussion incendiary assault rail-gun hand canons.

Someone proposes striking out even one of any of the above words and "OMG THEY'RE WIPING THEIR A$$ WITH THE CONSTITUTION!!! THEY'RE TAKING OUR GUNS!!!! THEY'RE GOING TO KILL US ALL!!!"

People from Dem. , Rep. and inbetween have been voicing concerns and disapproval for this "gun control" question from what has happened and Obama keeps his course. That's one sided.

Well, that was dull.

So Reagan as Governor was for 'gun control' and as PotUS opposed it?
Perhaps that's because he was young and foolish, and got smarter as he aged?

Meanwhile: Obama's going to shred the Constitution by the end of January? Of course he put "Joe Biden" in charge, so he can't be that serious about it...

So, when Reagan supported restricting the right to keep and bear arms (specifically. the rights of the Black Panthers), he was taking a principled stand, but when he later supported gun rights, even after being shot himself, he was being an "astute political strategist."

Bias much?
