Tuesday, December 18, 2012 1:52:55 PM I've had my differences with Obama, but for the record: That was one of the best speeches by a U.S. president I've ever heard. |

Monday, December 17, 2012 12:38:23 PM That's what happens when people who don't own dairy farms or restaurants make cheese laws. LOL think it has more to do with them not being pasturized. |

Monday, December 17, 2012 11:33:19 AM I never said it had anything to do with this particular case. However, terrorists are actually trained specifically to exploit this loophole. The Mexican drug cartels also exploit this loophole. |

Monday, December 17, 2012 11:32:59 AM Why is it that people who know nothing about firearms or laws in the US are the first to comment on them? In the US automatic weapons are ILLEGAL and have been since the 1930's. You must pass a federal background check (EVERY STATE). You are not allowed to be a known drug addict. You MUST have a clear mental history, and finally you must be 21 to own a handgun and 18 for a long gun. You all say we need more laws to prevent events like this from happening. Guess what? They are ALREADY there, and the shooter BROKE everyone! For god sakes people he killed his own MOTHER and stole her guns. There is absolutely NOTHING that could have prevented him from doing this. Even if every gun was illegal, he would have found a way. He WANTED to do this. If not with a gun then with his car, or a bomb, or a knife, baseball bat, or anything. There will always be evil people in this world. There is nothing you can do to stop it. But you don't take away the rights of millions innocent people. |

Monday, December 17, 2012 11:32:10 AM Then how do you feel about the gun show loophole in this country? Don't you think that's an area we can clamp down on without infringing upon the right to own guns? Had nothing to do with this case whatsoever. I's say lift the assualt weapon ban in the states that kept it. It's done nothing then make the laws clear and the same in all states. The peoples republic of Massachusetts makes their laws quite unclear so they can charge you with whatever they feel like and only sell pistols from makers that have payed off the state. Nevermind giving police chiefs the right to put whatever other stipulation they want in the laws so they can deny whoever they'd like(unconstitutional). That's what happens when people who don't own guns make gun laws. |

Monday, December 17, 2012 11:31:54 AM @bliznik Pretty sure CT has similar laws. I could get a shot-gun certificate in a few days if I wanted one. Took close to 4 month for mine to show up cause the state can't get off it's ass and do something. That and I have a suspicion they want you to loose your license so you have to jump through hoops for them again or just take your legally obtained guns away. |

Monday, December 17, 2012 11:17:54 AM I did all those things for a LTC and had to handle a firearm with an instructor. Would be nice if that were true in every state...and if only licensed people could purchase guns...and if there were tougher penalties on stores that violate these laws. Alas, such is not the case. |

Monday, December 17, 2012 11:07:58 AM McGovern1981 Why do you think that a serious approach to gun control means only that the government is coming for your guns so that they might more easily oppress you? It is obviously impractical and (IMO) undesirable to remove all fire-arms from private hand. We have pretty strict gun-laws in the UK but people can still get guns. I could get a shot-gun certificate in a few days if I wanted one. There is no quick fix, but surely it is time to take a look at the status quo and ask if it is working? I know US gun laws vary from state to state, but do you usually need to have passed some sort of safety test? You need to pass a test to drive a car, why not to own a gun? Do you think it reasonable to check if someone has a history of violent crime or unresolved mental health issues before issuing a permit? At least start to ask the questions. |

Monday, December 17, 2012 10:51:45 AM bliznik yes,you re right and yours are words of wisdom. Sadly lot of people confuse the freedom with the possibility to do what you want and whenever you want. In my opinion freedom require knowledge, wisdom and good sense to be achieved. In you country there is nothing like that for what concern the guns. In some state you just need to enter in a gun shop show your ID and you can exit with an arsenal,no question asked,no test. This is not freedom is just idiocy. To drive a car you must pass exams, you must study, you must do a practical and theoretical exam, when you have a car you must have insurance and you must keep the car well running via car revison. To have a gun you just need a freaking ID, this is nonsense.

Monday, December 17, 2012 10:46:37 AM @piperfawn Automatic weapons are not legal in the US unless you have a class 3 license and a butt load of money to go with it. As for cheeses I'm all set with cheese that has maggots in it probably has something to do with health codes. |

Monday, December 17, 2012 10:41:04 AM I don't own a gun and don't believe it's important for me to own a gun. Yet, for me, it's not so important to disarm America. It's more important to REGULATE guns in America. I don't mind if people like McGovern or Zeegrr60 have guns, so long as they are properly trained, renew gun licenses regularly, have regular background checks, etc. IMO, the people who should have guns are the people who can be trusted with them. NOT ALL CIVILIANS CAN BE TRUSTED WITH GUNS. |

Monday, December 17, 2012 10:20:38 AM @McGovern, if you have seen footage of crashes without seat belts, then it doesn't take the threat of a ticket to put your seat belt on, if that is somebody's motivation then I say repeal the law it might improve things. |
