"The government owns and runs many companies"

OK. Give me some.

Benghazi was not a non-story, Obama sat there and watched the attack on TV from an overhead drone as our ambassador Chris Stevens died.

"When he should have been doing what? Flying a jet to go rescue them himself? There was a failure somewhere, but what specifically do you think Obama's failure was?

"You constantly defend Obama because of your politics."

I just told you I voted for Bush. I vote based on the guy, not the letter next to his name. My guess is you have never cast a vote for a D for president in your life and never will.

You never responded to my little civics lesson about how socialism and us being a republic have NOTHING to do with each other.

Did it ever occur to you that GM's stock price fell because the government made them make crap cars like the Chevy Volt?

lol. So if only that meddling government hadn't bankrupted those auto companies they'd have been fine? Maybe you should do a little research first. The reason they had problems initially was because they focused on gas-guzzling SUVs and trucks due to the relatively high profit margins of those models at the time. Then the energy crisis happened in 2003, the price of fuel skyrocketed, and people started buying less of them, and then their debt overwhelmed them. The government was actually the voice of reason telling them to make models that are better on gas. Geez you can be thick-headed.

patchgrabber: Did it ever occur to you that GM's stock price fell because the government made them make crap cars like the Chevy Volt? Guess not, after all, you're one of those people that thinks the government does things better than private enterprise.

HG: The government owns and runs many companies that are in bankruptcy, including stock in GM and Chrysler.

Benghazi was not a non-story, Obama sat there and watched the attack on TV from an overhead drone as our ambassador Chris Stevens died.

You constantly defend Obama because of your politics. Don't blame me for your non-criticism of him.

"Sometimes you have to actually read a whole news article"

I read every word of articles before I post them. One guy speaking in hypotheticals about ideal situations does not equate to "GM has tried repeatedly to buy back it's stock from the government" which is what you said.

You like to blame everything on Bush, even now. Nothing can be Obama's fault in your eyes.

1. I do blame bush a lot. Because it is true: tinyurl.com/apneffn

Just to reiterate I voted for Bush the first time. He was atrocious and that isn't a biased opinion.

2. There are lots of things Obama has done that I don't like and lots of things I want him to do that he hasn't done.

The problem is we never have those conversations because you guys say things like we are becoming socialist without giving a SINGLE example of a company that the government bought under Obama. Or sensationalizing non-stories like benghazi. Or attacking Obama for things Bush did or initiated or caused, like GM bailouts or unemployment.

So I have to constantly defend him.

@crakr: Even Forbes says your government shouldn't sell, or they'd lose $15 billion due to the low share price. But even if they did, I'm sure you'd criticize Obama for selling too soon and throwing away taxpayer money. This issue is useless to argue with you, because no matter what Obama does he'll be the bad guy ruining your country (at least to you). You criticize @HG for nothing being Obama's fault in his eyes, but the opposite could easily be said of you: EVERYTHING is Obama's fault in your eyes, so stop being a hypocrite.

Btw, from your own link, Bob Ferguson, GM vice president for global public policy, said last month that an "orderly but quick exit" on behalf of the government "would be a better day for everybody."

Despite USA Today's story title, that statement alone underlines GM's interest in buying back it's shares.

Sometimes you have to actually read a whole news article to get to the real truth, because the MSM knows that most people don't read much past the headline.

The government still owns both Chrysler and GM stock and has it's hands running other businesses as well. GM has tried repeatedly to buy back it's stock from the government, but the government won't sell it to them.

1. What "other businesses? That is incredibly vague and general. Backup what you say.

2. "GM has tried repeatedly to buy back it's stock from the government" There was one wall street journal report back in september about that. According to this USA Today report that was false. By any measure it certainly hasn't been "repeatedly". tinyurl.com/b5oxp8k

3. Yes, they aren't selling yet. They are waiting for the stock to go up so the loss isn't as big.

4. THE AUTO BAILOUT WAS INITIATED UNDER BUSH.

Remind me again how Obama is marching us to socialism?

"The "health insurance" business."

You mean like Medicaid and Medicare? Weird. I didn't think those started under Obama...

"HG: Socialism is the government ownership of business and if these companies keep failing, getting corporate welfare and bailouts it won't be long until we are socialist. We are still a republic, but we are being pushed toward socialism by the continued vilification of capitalism."

Will you keep in touch with the rest of us as the right slowly fades into obsolescence?

"Socialism is the government ownership of business"

Agreed. What businesses has the government become an owner of under Obama? The banks got bailed out under Bush. The auto industry was a temporary thing that saved thousands of jobs and billions in GDP. What else? Since we are clearly marching towards socialism.

"We are still a republic, but we are being pushed toward socialism"

Huh? Socialism, strictly defined, is an economic model. In that regard we are capitalist. A republic is a governing model. They are not opposites, they are two different things in two different categories. You can be a socialist republic.

The USSR stood for the Union of Soviet Socialist REPUBLICS.

I've noticed how, since his reelection, the seas have started to boil, locusts have descended, scarecrows have started to cry human blood and Carrot Top has released another HBO special. Oh, and we've slipped into economic chaos and joblessness and a healthcare crisis the likes of which have never been seen. Or, no? Oh, oh well.
