Thursday, December 13, 2012 11:16:24 PM Most people who celebrate other-than-Christmas are happy doing their own thing and expect nothing from anyone else. Stores decided to be all inclusive with "Happy Holidays". The staunch Christians took it as a slap in the face to Jesus and started bitching about how everyone ELSE is bitching and stealing their holiday ... and to date, I've never heard a non-Christian bitching about the majority calling it "Christmas". Ever. I celebrate Yule and I love Christmas trees, presents, feasts and all the "traditional Christmas" things, plus all of my family celebrate Christmas, so we celebrate on 12/25 with everyone else ... happily. And I never bring up that most "Christmas traditions", um, aren't ... until someone gets pissy and accuses me of "not being Christian but having the NERVE to enjoy Christmas". We're willing to share, but don't steal OUR holiday and claim we're stepping on YOUR toes. lol. |

Wednesday, December 12, 2012 9:20:14 AM I have a colleague who always sticks a sign on his office door which says, 'Put the Christ back in Christmas.' So I have one which says, 'Put the Thor back in Thursday.' It only works if you're a Geordie, though. |

Wednesday, December 12, 2012 7:01:09 AM It's well known when the Christian calendar was being created and to get people to switch to Christianity easier they put a lot of religious holidays and festivals on the same or similar time as the pagan rituals. Doesn't change the message of Christianity.... (for reference immoral kinky sex loving atheist here, doesn't stop me looking at comments in this thread and thinking some people do want to destroy Christmas) |

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 10:44:01 PM After the shortest day of the year, the daylight hours stay virtually unchanged for three days, and then on the 25th the days slowly start to lengthen. Hence the reason so many gods are supposedly born on this day of Earthly rebirth, and the reason Rome stuck with the date when they declared Christianity the new official state religion and designated Jesus as the son of God. And people take this stuff literally. X-D |

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 10:08:03 PM You think that Christian church DOESN'T know any of this? This is proof that the Catholic Church knew what they were doing when they scheduled their biggest celebrations (Christmas and Easter) during important times for local pagans. They even incorporated a lot of the pagan traditions and gave it a Christian focus. Now Christianity is everywhere and nobody knows about Yule or Saturn. Seems to me it worked... |

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 6:15:24 PM Great stuff, though every time someone tries to tell me that the true meaning of Christmas is the birth of Jesus, I have yet to experience any problems with the response: "Then why are you celebrating it during the winter solstice instead of spring when Jesus was born?" |

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 6:13:34 PM Print this and carry it on your wallet. Next time some preachy Christian tries to tell you about the real Christmas(tm) story, recite this lot to him. |

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 4:33:27 PM I was always taught that Christmas and the celebration of Jesus' birth were two different things. And it was okay to participate in secular activities as long as I understood which was made up and which was real. Yea, totally an atheist since age nine. |

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 3:50:43 PM veen saying for years Christmas is NOT a Christian holiday and has little to do with Jesus, as usual, my Christian brothers and sisters chose to ignore this though and go on preaching crap about a war on THEIR holiday...their holiday, hahahahaha right. |

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 1:32:13 PM I like bringing this up too but people never want to listen to what the REAL origins of all the holiday traditions are even though it's obvious. |
