This will surely become the standard defence for many criminals in future.

This is why cops are dicks now. This idiot should show the cop the respect of his position.
This annoys me because if I get pulled over for something the cop will probably be a dick to me because he is sick of all the sh*t.
DONT ANSWER THE FRIKKEN COP BACK. if he is wrong he will pay for it later.you just make things worse for everybody.
I dont really like cops and dont want to get a pissed off cop because of you so SHUT UP.

jinxjinx: The kid was filming the fire and standing on a automatic gate box to do so. That would seem suspicious to any police officer.

jinxjinx34: It takes more than just an age range and sex for there to be a 'profile' for any type of criminal.

jamie76: Police have radios that alert them of all types of emergencies, including fires. I'm sure the police officer knew of the fire and was patrolling looking for suspicious characters.

For instance, if there had been reports of slashed tires in the area and a cop seen a kid with a knife shaped object in his back pocket, I'm sure that kid would be stopped and questioned as well.

@CrakrJak- It is a known fact that approximately 90 percent of known serial killers are Caucasian males between the ages of 25 to 35. Does that give the police the right to stop anyone or everyone within this profile?

This whole video took longer than the whole incident would've if the cameraman had just not been a dick. While I agree he didn't have to show his identification to the officer, if he'd just been more cordial to him, the officer would've just said "Thank you for your cooperation sir. Have a good day.". How do I know this? Because I've been around police officers most of my life. Yes, some are dicks. Most are not. The same applies to those who are not policemen. Because whether you realize it or not, police officers are people. I've found that if you treat them with respect, they'll treat you with respect. If you're polite to the police, you will allay their suspicions and you'll be on your way.
So, what have we learned? Ah yes. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. I believe it's called "The Golden Rule".

Friggin' pigs... and I'm talking about you guys defending 'em too. Whatever happened to "presumed innocence?" Know your Constitution, people! Know your rights and stand up for them. The best question in that situation is, "Am I under arrest or am I free to go?"

white people are so lucky
got take in for smiling one the pig felt I was being disrespectful for smiling at him.
I was charged with loitering in a park during a festival. The judge felt I was being disrespectful for smiling at in court so I was fined after my night in jail.

The cop doesn't have the authority to require the kid's ID, but he wasn't a dick about it. The kid, on the other hand, was douche-like.

It's a known fact that arsonists like to film/video the results of their crime. I don't think it was out of line for the cop to ask him for ID, especially knowing that the profile for arsonists are young males that like to film fires and challenge authority.

cop is out of line. he has no real reason to hold the guy there. the cop was just being an non-nice individual because the guy didn't give him his ID. but he doesn't have to give it to him, and the cop knows it. or maybe he is really just dumb and bad at his job. and when he found himself in a situation where a citizen knows more about the law than he does, he has to call in his boss to see if he can keep drating with the guy or if he has to let him go. and we saw the result. a-hole cop being an a-hole cop, harassing people for no apparent reason (he can't even come up with an excuse) until a cop that knows how do do his job shows up and tells him whats up

He should send them an invoice for his time: $250/hr., 4 hr. minimum, then take them to small claims if they don't pay.

While I agree the cop is out of line, other than his petulant attitude, by what definition is the cameraman as a 'kid'?

Guy with the camera is just being an a$$hole and trying to piss the cop off, plain & simple. Ever since 9/11 especially, depending on where you are or what buildings you're near the police take notice if you're filming video or taking pictures. Any cop driving by probably would have stopped and asked what he was doing, he immediately got defensive so when you do that you give off the impression that you're guilty of something. While I'm not a fan of a lot of sh*t law enforcement does, I'm siding with the cop here.

don't you know that stating that a arsonist likes to watch their work still does not make this MAN, he is not a kid, a suspect for simplying being there and filming it?

don't you know how each time we allow authority to question us, detain us, inspect our belongings without a real reason we have given up our rights?

don't you know that the officer had NO reason to even suspect arson...that the officer was not even working on that incident because if he had been he would have taken the MAN into custody right off the bat and questioned him as a suspect.

ergo, the officer was not even aware of the fire until he pulled up after seeing a man with a camera filming over a wall.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS question authority.

you might think he is being a douche but this guy is 100% right to push back against current police tactics where they assume we have no right to question them, to deny them unreasonable access to our lives when we are doing nothing wrong.

the officer could not even state why he wanted the ID...yet somehow he knew he wanted the ID...just not why...

yea there is nothing okay about that.

and in case anyone wants to point out the AZ law about identifying oneself, the law states the cop must have suspicion. In this case he even states he did not suspect the camera person of anything: AZ ID Law
