Thursday, December 06, 2012 2:46:00 PM @TheGuySmiley: They're still both wrong. Xmas was not used as code. It's earliest recorded use was in the 10-11 hundreds. A time when being christian was not something that was lifethreatening. More the opposite. And, as George Carlin would say: "Fu*k common useage!" Xmas = Christmas, end of story. |

Thursday, December 06, 2012 1:52:24 PM Both are right. You see in the old days it was as the response said (in blue). But as the present days have rolled around, it's slowly became a way to 'x out' out of Christ's name (as green indicated), to hide, or erase it. So the X can be seen both ways, and it's open to interpretation. In terms of the later though, it's a bit insecure, since faith in God will go on forever, no matter how much people try to silence, or hide it. Humankind knows the name of its Saviour.

Thursday, December 06, 2012 1:45:31 PM Nope...I use it to X Christ out of Christmas. The Christians stole every single part of Christmas from other things. I'm stealing it back! |

Thursday, December 06, 2012 12:08:43 PM Sadly, they're both wrong.. The X is just and abbreviation for "Christ", derived from the greek letter x [chi], pronounced "ch". Xmas = Ch[rist]mas.. Couldn't find anything about it being used as code at all, so assuming that that is wrong as well. It's most likely just an old abbreviation. Ever seen this?:
Same principle. An X and a P, or in greek: A Chi and a Rho, together pronounced "chr". Another old common abbreviation for "Christ". |

Thursday, December 06, 2012 11:47:43 AM I'm far too often surprised at christians who don't know the history of the faith. For those of you not in the know, P and X are the first and last letters of Jesus in Coin Greek, hence why they turn up so much, especially in early christian art. |
