Monday, November 26, 2012 11:16:26 AM @ferdyfred - Now that's funny! They must have hit it just right to set off the targeting system. Most of those fighter/bombers, even older ones with updated avionics, can automatically lock on and monitor up to 20 targets at a time and in a fraction of a second. If he had live weapons on that plane, like a HARM all it would have taken is one flick of a switch and those cops would have been toast! |

Saturday, November 24, 2012 1:22:04 PM Remember a story about some traffic cops in England some years ago. Being bored on mobile speed camera duty, saw a RAF Tornado flying low so decided to aim there laser speed detector at it to see how fast it was going, Unfortunately the laser off the camera activated the automatic targeting weaponry of the Tornado, and it was only the quick thinking of the Pilot which stopped them from having a large missile take out their panda car. The pilot had to report the incident. The RAF gave the constabulary in question a proper bollocking |

Friday, November 23, 2012 2:22:01 PM @Listypoos, Had a similar experience when I was stationed in Germany before the end of the cold war. Our tac-site was 15 miles from the (then) communist Czec border. We were an anti-aircraft battalion, watching the borders for incursions. Well, our boys in the radar vans would get bored late at night and once in a while would start locking on targets over the border. Highly illegal and inflammatory, but they didn't really have much better to do. Once in a very great while, the Czecs would decide they'd have enough and scramble a couple of fighters over the border and back again in order to check our alert status and stop the boys in the vans from screwing with them. There is nothing quite like having a Russian made Foxbat pop the sound-barrier 50 feet over your head to tighten up your shot-group and change the color and consistency of your shorts. - LJ |

Friday, November 23, 2012 1:50:12 PM When I was in the military me and a mate were high up trying to fix some comms back to base when a mig flew very close to us and it must have seen us cause it put it's afterburner on and went into a vertical climb just after it passed by. I wont say I poo myself... but I found out the benefits of shirt tails. |
