Did I say criminals? I meant suspects, that's all this flotilla was a group of suspects.

Remember Russia has wanted both eastern and western ports for nearly 200 hundred years. This one reason why America has so much trade and money. This is why Russia has long been interested in Istanbul, but Lattakia and Tartous in Syria could prove just as beneficial. But Syria would need a stable, pro-Russian government. This is why Russia sides with Assad despite his loss of control, because if he is put back in power, the Russian believe they will be able control him for their interests.

@Modwain: nope, they are contemplating dutch patriots there because turkey asked for it, not cause syria is such a mess.

True they still contemplating it, but it's for defense against Syria because Syria is a mess, they maybe also want a cool fireworks show if they have some left over, but I doubt it.

To answer your earlier question:

Thing is, the worlds supper powers (usa, russia and china) wont get involved, for what ever reason, so no one will stick their neck out..

A. Everybody is in a financial crisis.
B. The US, Russia, and China support the opposite sides and opposite interests. Basically another proxi war, but what do you think would happen if US forces began battling Russian or Chinese forces. I doubt it would ease any tensions instead i think it would likely just create a more destructive war and probably cause another arms race. I'm really not saying it's a good thing, only that it's better than the alternatives.

They lined the decks to fight

Most criminals don't want to fight, but for some if their hand is pushed they'll pull out their guns even if it means their demise.

there is nothing morally wrong with arming oneself...

@Cajun: They were a "peace flotilla" supposedly carrying nothing illegal.
Of course they wanted a confrontation! They lined the decks to fight, it wasn't 1 or 2 "exremists" it was a whole boatload of them! Literally! These people SEEK martyrdom.
They locked all the Westerners below deck of course, can't have the propoganda bait killed...

@Modwain: Armed is armed. The problem wasn't the weapons, it was that they attacked IDF soldiers with them. Peace Flotilla, my eye!

pistols and shotguns which the IDF did not carry were on the ship

Considering the IDF has submachine guns and assault rifles I find it odd to believe they wanted to antagonize the Israelis into reacting. If they Kalashnikov's maybe but what the IDF found is small fry. On top of which there is nothing morally wrong with arming oneself even if one is traversing through an otherwise peaceful region on Earth.

i wish they could help out, but putting a defence in an adjoining country isnt the same as stopping the fighting in syria

5cats, i see you agree, "armed" is the rigth way of saying it..

same point stays though. this is a mess, both sides have blood on their hands, both sides have innocent cassualties. both sides are using as much propaganda as they can to influence the people that can have voices outside of their little fight.. And worse of all, they allready have and answwer for those that do and do not agree with what their propaganda wants you to think.

Again, this isnt something small ,this isnt something simple..

A teacher i had about 25 years ago said the following.. Build a big dome over the area, no one in, no one out.. Its terrible what happens there and it is terrible how it effects a world that doesnt step in to clear the air. So a dome may be the best idea"
i didnt agree with him then, but i am slowly starting to understand him, he was right it seems.

@cajun: They had them @Cajun, pistols and shotguns which the IDF did not carry were on the ship.
10 soldiers wearing body armour were injured!
A 3' iron bar isn't a "weapon" ONE blow would kill you, or at least break your bones. A couple of dozen people beating you with them and I think you'd change your mind.

The main point is: they CUT them on purpose to BE armed!

"Gaza Flotilla Raid" or variations brings up tons of video, pro and con, but even the Pro-Hamas video shows clear violence with weapons.
It wasn't "a sneak attack" the IDF announced they were comming, in noisey helepopters! Hamas swarmed the decks and attacked, no two ways about it!
ONLY that ship had violence, the other 7 were peacefully searched and sent on their way...

In August 1946, however, the British began to intern those Jewish Refugees they caught in camps in Cyprus. Approximately 50,000 people were detained in the camps, 28,000 of whom were still imprisoned when Israel declared independence.

Britain's Foreign Minister, Ernest Bevin, replied sarcastically that the United States wanted displaced Jews to immigrate to Palestine "because they did not want too many of them in New York."

Briton saw this as a way to erode their influence. They began crafting anti-Jewish policy and propaganda and even forbid Jews from moving there because "economic capacity of the land could not support more than a million people." Yet if you paid the British Government 500 pounds per person they would let you in but they had to pay 75% of all your money in taxes to the British occupiers.

Briton didn't really warm up to the Jews until the end of WW2 when they found that thousands of educated Russian Jews were moving to America and they were missing out on it. But by this time Islamic hate already formed due to the British constenly claiming that due to the limitations of the land every Jewish settler was forcing the Arab fellahin (native peasants) from their land.

On June 6, 1946, President Truman urged the British government to relieve the suffering of the Jews confined to displaced persons camps in Europe by immediately accepting 100,000 Jewish immigrants.

Actually Europe has always been involved. There wasn't an anti-zionist feeling in Palisine until the end of the anglo-egyptian war. The British wanted control of the Suez canal and Palistine was seen as a buffer against the Ottoman Empire.

At this time in Palistine the Moslem religious leaders, even the Mufti, were openly friendly with the Jews. Seeing them as a path to modernaztion and a buffer against becoming a puppet state.

In May 1918, Dr. Chaim Weizmann and Hussein of the Hejaz met in Cairo where the latter spoke of mutual cooperation between Jews and Arabs in Palestine. In early l9l9 a Treaty of Friendship was signed to provide for "the closest possible collaboration in the development of the Arab state and the coming Jewish Commonwealth of Palestine. On March 3, l9l9, another Arab leader, Feisal, son of Sherif, wrote: "We wish the Jews a most hearty welcome home."

Have you seen the video of them cutting the railings to make iron bars,

I'd hardly call that armed. I also don't recall any firearms, except for the IDF.

@Modwain: I dont see Europe doing anythign in isreal or in syria to be honest.

Really? Well, Nato has been placing Patriot missiles near Turkey's border with Syria. They made a new Arab council that is supposed to work this time.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has accused France of trying to "have it both ways" by calling for UN action in Syria while at the same time concluding profitable trade agreements with a Russian arms company allegedly exporting military equipment to the Syrian regime.

There are also reports that British, French and German weapons stored in the NATO base in Benghazi, Libya, were being ferried to Adana, Turkey until violence forced the base to be closed. One of the reasons Sir Dominic Asquith had to meet with Stevens. Asquith was attacked during his visit, and the British embassy was closed.

"Turkish humanitarian mission..."

@Modwain are you talking about the Gaza Flotilla Raid? FFS they were totally "armed"! Have you seen the video of them cutting the railings to make iron bars, and using those bars to attack the IDF? As well as knives and shotguns.
I hope you're talking about something else...

@paperduck: No, I don't mean "lawful exchange" I mean BLOOD DEATH KILLING! In North America the natives were doing it for 1,000s of years before the Spanish showed up (just for example).

NO Palestinian will sell his land to a Jew, period! He faces death if he does so! Also you cannot sell to someone who then sells to a Jew, same result. Hamas are savages, period. Fatah are savages with cheap suits...

Im NOT claiming the "average Palestinian" is a savage, in before the shouting...

5cats you don't get it do you? Yeah every piece of land has exchanged hands, That is different from stealing homes, actual homes people are living in. Bulldozing them and pretending no one was there. Then take the the survivors and put them in a large open prison, control all the resources, drat with them constantly and bomb them occasionally.

Then blame them, what the hell did you think might happen, they will never retaliate?

@5cats.

I dont see Europe doing anythign in isreal or in syria to be honest. the down side of Europe is that we are always in a way locked between the usa and Rusia.. and if we look at both syria or isreal, both russia and teh usa dont give a crap about either. For Europe to take a stance that is highly different then either of those two is unfortunatly higly unlikely.

i am curious though.. syria's unrest is encrouching on Turkey, a NATO member.. And the last time a humanitarian mission was sent to Gaza the israeli soldiers killed, amongst other, turkish civilians, claiming they were armed (proof suggest they werent but well, there is that).

Thing is, the worlds supper powers (usa, russia and china) wont get involved, for what ever reason, so no one will stick their neck out..

Fair enough, but lets not claim one side is better or worse then the other, cause, in all fairness, it is not true

At least you took the time to reply, even if you didn't answer...

I honestly never dreamed so many "Euro-Peans" would come out of the woodwork over such a mild cartoon! (Avoiding Godwin's Law, eh? it's 'code'...) Have any of them even GLANCED at the vile hatred perpetrated by Pro-Palestinian "cartoonists"? It's an ORDER of MAGNITUDE worse! Several examples given here already.

On the one hand calling for "proportionality"...
The other hand covers up FOR one side...

It's a political comment, an opinion piece, it's SUPPOSED to be one sided! Otherwise it would be luke-warm puke-tasting crapola. DUH!

But don't think about that, it's so much easier to ignore questions, call names and declare victory...

2.2 now. Really, is IAB a "popularity contest" now? Must be in the rulebook next to "fair and balanced content ONLY"...

@paperduck: Every square foot of land ON THE PLANET (Except possibly Antartica) has changed hands through bloodshed. EVERY one. Where you live? Taken from someone else, who took it from a 3rd party, who stole it from... etc, ad infinitum.

@davymid: Perhaps it is your thinking that is clouded? Stockholm Syndrome will do that to you, eh? You're correct, I cannot imagine that happening during my childhood, Life During Wartime, eh?
I'm quite aware of Israel's transgressions, crimes and violations in the past 70 years (going back to British Occupation. THAT was real occupation! And Ottoman before that! See? History!) carried out by radicals and the State too.
BUT: Looking objectively since 1973? Lady Justice's scales are tipping so far one way it's unspeakable. The PLO made their name killing civialians of ANY country, forget that part?

In other words, long story short, you don't know what the f*ck you're talking about.

5Cats, it pains me to do this, but I'm putting you in the same bucket as Crackrjak, which is people that I think are dicks. Population has just increased from 1 to 2.

Sorry bud. You stretched too far with the
You don't like Jews. I get that

Couldn't give less of a f*ck whether they're Jews, Muslims, atheists or anything in between. Dicks are dicks.

This isn't the first time you've come out to support terrorists

Wee Baby Jesus in the Manger. F*ck me. Please link to examples of me supporting terrorism, I'd love to read it.

Look, I grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland. People killing each other over slightly different flavours of Christianity. Saw it every day. Bombs, RPGs, mortars, machine-guns, you name it. You didn't have that in Winnipeg, or wherever. Thing is, it's complex. There's two sides to the story. But you can only see one side, and propagandise that bullsh*t, when it's in fact a very complex issue. If you had been born as I was in Northern Ireland, you'd be 100% behind either Gerry Adams and his IRA or behind Ian Paisley and his Loyalist Paramilitaries; either way is wrong.
