The one second from the right is the Iraqi Campaign medal with one service star. Meaning he was only deployed during only one of 7 phases of the Iraq war.
And its not a service specific medal, its awarded by the DoD to all of the armed forces. |

Ugh, that medal is gonna bug me. Maybe it's super new? I mean, this photo was clearly taken at the ball, no gloves, so it could've been taken just last weekend. Whatever it is, I don't think it's even a Marine medal. Perhaps Army? Air Force who swapped branches just to go into a 6xxx MOS? |

He must be a POG. He's a Sgt. with at least 4 yrs time in (looks like there's a hashmark where that little bit of red is on the cuff of his right sleeve) and only four medals (Good Conduct, National Defense, *not sure what the yellow one 2nd from right is*, Global War on Terror Service Medal) and a Sea Service Deployment ribbon (the one ribbon by itself over the other breast pocket). |
