Saturday, November 17, 2012 9:11:41 PM I've heard & read that it was a complete POS, eh? The body was pretty crappy. It was gelcoat over fiberglass, and the gelcoat tended to crack and delaminate. Also, the doors were operated by a hydraulic pump from a Ford convertible top, and it was badly undersized for the weight of the doors, so it used to blow seals all the time (no penguin jokes). Other than that, though, it was great. It had a Ford 351 Windsor small block with a C4 automatic, and it ran like a turpentined cat. I used to race it in SCCA autocross, and I usually finished 1st or 2nd in my class. BTW, I chose that picture because mine was green, too, and it looked just like that. |

Saturday, November 17, 2012 12:01:42 PM @OldOllie: you actually owned a Bricklin? Canada's most famously government subsidized car? lolz! I've heard & read that it was a complete POS, eh?
Nice!
I thought Messerschmitt made a front-opening car, but no, it was a "bubble-top" as you can see. @CaptK: Checked Stationwagon! Awesome machine! I've turned green as your avatar with jealousy! |

Saturday, November 17, 2012 10:06:33 AM Holeymoley Piperfawn, That one looks a bit fancier than the one he had, but that's a ringer. The man taught me cars by helping me re-build an old Checker Marathon station wagon- '64, I think- but he never did get that little car of his going as he lacked parts, and couldn't fabricate what he needed. Thanks for the pic- brings back some good memories. |

Friday, November 16, 2012 9:11:30 PM That happened to me a lot when I was fat. Strangely enough, it doesn't happen to me near as often now that I've lost weight. Maybe I'm just smaller, IDK. |

Friday, November 16, 2012 8:59:27 PM I used to have a Bricklin with gullwing doors.
The doors only needed 11" to open, but this old lady in a big Mercury Medicare pulled in so close I couldn't open the door to get in without hitting her right-side mirror. She was several inches over the line, so I asked her please to move her car. She asked sarcastically, "How is this MY problem? You're the one with the funny doors. I'll move it when I'm done shopping. You'll just have to wait." I said, "That's fine, as long as you won't be needing your side-view mirror any longer." When she realized what I was about to do, she moved her car. |

Friday, November 16, 2012 6:37:37 PM Long ago and far away, my first girlfriend's uncle had a very small import car that he was rebuilding; I don't remember the make or model, or whether it had four wheels or just three. What I do recall, is that it had just one door- the entire front of the vehicle opened up like a book, you got in, and closed the front up. The front part had the steering wheel and dashboard just like any other car. Long story long, I think those cars were made for folks shaped like this guy, as the car was pretty much round. |

Friday, November 16, 2012 5:14:37 PM Oi! Gerry1of1, the bits of writing did not look European to me, they were distinctly Russian. This is obviously a cheap Russian copy of an American clip. Also being a European, I'm not as fat as I look. (Or so people tell me) |
