Thursday, November 15, 2012 12:09:48 PM Also, to people saying that the red blood cell is too big for the needle. We cannot see how far the needle tapers out from. All that we can see is the very tip. I know I was skeptical earlier but after seeing the source I believe it is real. |

Thursday, November 15, 2012 12:06:37 PM ggolbez, metals are not porous so you would not see any pores at all. What you might see if the magnification was great enough are grains. Almost all metals have some sort of grain structure but you would not be able to see these until at almost 35000x magnification (Approximately). I have taken images with a scanning electron microscope (the same type of equipment used for the above photograph) and at the scale of a red blood cell (6-8 microns) the needle looks right.

Thursday, November 15, 2012 7:57:39 AM The needle is too smooth. At that magnification you would be able to see the pores in the metal. On top of that, if a red blood cell was that big it would be visible to the naked eye. |

Thursday, November 15, 2012 7:38:03 AM Electron microscope. Why is it fake? Do you know how small the tip of a needle is? |

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 7:30:41 PM I have trouble believing that this is an SEM image of the needle. I can't for the life of me figure out how someone would prepare that kind of a sample. |
