Friday, November 16, 2012 9:53:48 AM The flag code basically says nothing about a flag touching the ground other than that it should be avoided. It does state any flag unfit for showing and beyond repair should be destroyed. Burning given as a good method of disposal. It's perfectly fine to wash a flag if it gets dirty, or to resew a split seam. |

Thursday, November 15, 2012 9:39:59 PM you don't burn a flag that's touched the ground, you fold it and put it away until the next day. flags that are DAMAGED are to be burned or buried. |

Thursday, November 15, 2012 7:49:24 AM a buddy of mine went to st. louis a little while back for a wedding. all the canadian guests at the wedding thought it would be a good idea to get a big canadian flag card and all sign their names and best wishes and what not. as the card was passed around, all the americans were appalled to see canadians writing on their own flag. |

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 7:03:44 PM iirc... Any US flag used for an Official Ceremony must never touch the ground... like honoring the dead or other meaningful uses... |

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 5:52:07 PM It's a popularly held belief, but US flags that touch the ground do not need to be burned. Rather, they should be moved so that they are not touching the ground. |
