Technically, we are allowed to own tanks and fighter jets, but it's kind of cost prohibitive lol.

By the way, the intention of our second amendment was for the general populace to have weapons that were as effective as our military, to defend ourselves against any tyranny that may rise and turn the military against us.
That's why we freaked out about the assault weapons ban (and are happy it's over). Technically, we are allowed to own tanks and fighter jets, but it's kind of cost prohibitive lol. |

To comment on the shotgun issue, they are far superior for home defense. One of the prime rules of responsible gun ownership is knowing what is BEYOND your target. 556 (AR-15 round) is deadly through my house and the next one as well. With the proper ammo, your shotgun won't go through two layers of sheet rock and insulation. Nothing, nothing is more intimidating or distinctive in the dark than the sound of someone cycling a round into a pump shotgun.
I think it is very interesting that people who think responsible gun owners are just paranoid are they themselves so paranoid of being shot by one of our guns; however we are the crazy ones for being armed!
And finally, for the same reason that you can't ban abortions, you can't ban guns. Legality doesn't stop the acquisition, just the safety and regulation. |

Seriously though, and I'm not being paranoid here, there may come a day in the not too distant future when Obama and or the UN may try to take US Citizens gun rights away. They are already trying to do it, Here.
Such a treaty would usurp our 2nd Amendment rights and usher in the 'New World Order' that people have been warning about for decades.
If it comes to that, it'll start a new civil war, they'll be another American revolution against enemies both foreign and domestic. |

Of course I do. Why would someone want to kill me? If someone breaks into my house it would almost certainly be a simple robbery.
However, that is why I would take my kids and gun into a room and lock the door. If someone crosses that line I would kill them no problem. |

You assume the guy's not there to kill you, and that he cares about the gun. This recent event comes to mind. The dad survived, got to live through it over and over again in court.

It might well be more effective for intimidation. A shotgun may well be more effective for killing a person or two who has invaded your home, but a military-looking gun may well be more effective at intimidating them into obedience. That might be better if you want them arrested more than you want to kill them.
But I think that the main thing is the extreme fallback position I mentioned. It's hardly likely that the USA will be invaded or become a brutal tyranny over its own people, but it's not impossible for it to happen at some point.
Essentially, it's insurance. You'll probably never need it, but you might consider it worth the cost to be covered in case you do. The cost is about 14,000 lives per year. |

Here is the thing. I would never shoot a burglar. If someone broke into my house and I could get to my kids and my gun I would take them, go in a bedroom, lock the door, and call the police.
Afterwards I'd take a look at what was gone and call my insurance company. I wouldn't be able to live with the guilt of killing someone over a playstation or TV.
Secondly, while I support everyone's right to defend themselves I would think a shotgun would more efficiently defend you against multiple attackers in close quarters coming through tight corridors like hallways or doors. No?

okay, just watched some more videos from these guys.they build a few 'zombie apocalypse' scenario fantasy weapons, so I suppose in that context this video is innocent enough, But I stand by my previous argument. |

I get that these links are on here to be discussed, but I'm getting the impression that anything concerning those 'Wacky Americans' and their guns is just posted to to bait everyone into an argument about gun control, and how the other side are stupid for not agreeing.
Maybe the pro-gun side are right about keeping a gun in the house for defence, maybe that logic has become the truth. But it's a pretty sad way for a powerful western democracy to end up.
Is there anything wrong with firearms themselves? Not really, but the fact that some Americans feel sufficiently threatened enough to necessitate an 'arsenal' of weapons is not something to be proud of. |

Replace the Glock with a Springfield XD. 13 rounds in a .45 is a wonderful thing, and get the point of aim of a 1911.
I think it is hilarious all of these people think a raggedy bunch of Americans with guns are no threat to the "amazing power" of the American Military Machine.
Let's see, where have I heard about lightly armed, poorly trained civilian populations; who are also intimately familiar with their terrain giving the American Military Machine a tough time? Hint: Start in the 60's and work your way forward.
Now throw in defecting members of the armed forces, killing your own neighbors, and see how well they would really do. |

(*note: In one case of 'three' in my neighborhood, only 'one' of the 'three' survived the experience unscathed. One didn't survive at all.) |
