Monday, October 29, 2012 7:17:46 AM @chance13 technically samhain is a festival for the dead. Great feasts were just a part since the spirits were said to have huge appetites and in mythology people believed that if they were to follow suit, they wouldnt be harmed by the fairies and the dead coming through the sidhe. |

Monday, October 29, 2012 4:32:12 AM Samuin had nothing to do with evil or with dressing up...it was a pagan feasting holiday. The costumes come from a Catholic tradition called 'souling'. Children would dress like the spirits of the deceased and go from house to house asking for cakes in exchange for prayers for the deceased. So, before we all start a pointless argument, maybe a little research... |

Monday, October 29, 2012 3:41:11 AM @indid no it hasnt evolved. Unless you mean the evolution of it being marketed. It has nothing to do with people disguising themselves as evil doers to evade spirits etc. The actual history is that it CELEBRATES evil etc. Ya know, it being a pagan holiday/ritual. I think its you that needs to move on and stop defending stupid decisions americans make. |

Sunday, October 28, 2012 3:28:07 PM Excellent, 10 out of ten for originality' I've never seen this done before. On the subject of halloween though, I'm not sure how this fits in. Maybe rocket-powered ghoulies? |

Sunday, October 28, 2012 3:18:22 PM @ tedgp - I see this question from you a lot lately. Since you seem genuinely confused [/sarcasm], I'll attempt to explain: Halloween has been evolving ever since it started. The whole idea behind the costumes was to disguise yourself to confuse the evil spirits so they couldn't find you. While a lot of people chose monster or ghost costumes - way back in the day people also used to wear animal skins. There has never been any hard rule saying that you MUST wear a monster costume or be scary looking. The idea is simply to not look like your normal everyday self. Now get over it already and move on. |
