@5Cats: it's from Iria, not Akira.

I didn't know that, had to google it

@Palfas: That's the girl from Akira in your avatar? Nice! Usually I have Nuku Nuku for an avatar, but my 5Cats one was from a friend

Angilion has a "Mum" not a mommy... I have a Mum too! lolz!
His definition of "feminism" is 'spot-on'...

@Angilion: Well, regardless of what you think of feminism, that's what the walk was named for.

@CrakrJak: Well I for one don't find "beaner" derogatory, and regardless of its negative history, the word "gringo" doesn't have the same connotation as it did before. The point being that when there is a cultural acceptance of whatever it was before, the shock of the word loses its meaning because now there's no real implication to it anymore. Want it or not, that's what history shows as happening, and that was my point.

Let's not forget nowadays you can call someone a nazi in jest

jendrian: the day "the N-word" stops having a derogatory meaning is the day racism against black people stops.

I disagree, Those kind of words will always be derogatory. There is just too much negative history behind them, for them to ever be redeemed.

The only solution is that those words stop being used to the point of being antiquated and eventually extinct.

Until then they continue to defedate our language.

It was a feminist rally about women's rights called "SlutWalk" so-called because a cop in Toronto said that women wouldn't be raped if they didn't dress like sluts.

No, he didn't. Nobody even cares what he actually said - it was just something that some people could abuse as a political tool.

Feminism is a mixture of sexism, distortions of carefully selected parts of the truth, sexism, lies, sexism, hypocrisy and sexism. And then more sexism is added in varying amounts depending on how extremist the strain of feminism is.

@CrakrJak: the day "the N-word" stops having a derogatory meaning is the day racism against black people stops. Same with "sluts". If you really respect them, then you should understand why being a little slutty doesn't immediately make them any less of a person.

jendrian: Sorry, I just can't approve of the naming "Slutwalk". Call me old fashioned, but I have more respect for womanhood than that.

@CrakrJak: Times are changing, as SlutWalk hasn't hurt its cause, on the contrary: it is widely accepted and used all over the industrialized world as a feminist, anti-rape march. Look it up, google is your friend.

jendrian: Sorry, I just can't ever see MLK Jr. marching across the Selma Bridge calling his march a 'N-word walk', back in the 60s.

Such naming doesn't quell the stereotype, it only reinforces it. If you want to be taken seriously don't use such sarcasm in a protest or march.

Just watch: a major porn label will remake this scene. I don't know who, but it'll happen.

jendrian: So these women thought is was wise to call their march a "SlutWalk"?

I mean would you think it wise for guys to call their march a "PimpWalk"?

yes, given the context. Here let me present you to my good friends irony and sarcasm, they are usually employed at protests.

@CrakrJak: idk if you Americans have them, but feminists up here used to have an annual march called "Take Back The Night" in the 80's and 90's. It was to protest against rape, or something...
>Men were banned from marching.
The usually did NOT get a rally permit, but the police never stopped them.
They'd dress up like witches and stuff, idk why...

But fast forward a few years and PRESTO! Another excuse to dress up and march!
Take Back The Night
Apparently it was big in the USA too!
Slutwalk
Yay Canada!

I'm not condoning what this guy did, but choosing a name for your march that has such a negative context is just counter productive to the cause and is just asking for someone to counter-protest it.

@5cats:

The site was responding a little slowly last time I clicked on it. That's a picture of the article, and this is a video of the aftermath (right after the picture was taken), taken from The News Junkie site.

@CrakrJak: here is the most reputable source I could find on the subject... but at least it has a lot of information (can't vouch for it's accuracy though, but it looks legitimate).

It was a feminist rally about women's rights called "SlutWalk" so-called because a cop in Toronto said that women wouldn't be raped if they didn't dress like sluts.
