well... this is what happens in atlanta. I bet it was black people. Seriously, I've lived in atlanta my entire life and I've met black people from other areas. They were actually nice for the most part. There is a reason why racism is still alive in some areas of the states. People act in ways that justify and reinforce stereotypes. |

I'm not sure whys hes an idiot because people broke into his house and stole everything.
His problem was having no one around to supervise, he should have put the stuff out on the curb, or put it out when he got home. Guaranteed it was one person who broke in, and then everyone else just joined in taking stuff. |

I hope all the the people that took things from the house burn in hell.
And no - he isn't at fault - the ad said YARD SALE which indicates everything in the yard. As usual, the stupidity of the general public is astounding. An ESTATE SALE indicates everything on the property, while YARD SALE indicates what is outside.
I hope some people are nice enough to bring stuff back - I already have no hope for the human race, but someone might surprise me. |

Click the link where it says "more on the story here". Sure, the ad was worded bad and maybe not absolutely clear, but still doesn't give them the right to break into these people's home and ROB THEM. Their house was locked! I totally don't agree with this being their fault. |

Actually I've re-read the posts here and no one has said they deserved it (Lando implied it though) so I retract parts of what I said. What has been said is that it was their fault which I still think is wrong. In very few real life situations is one party entirely at fault. They were stupid, the people who took their stuff were opportunistic, selfish and cruel. That's two groups of people at fault so how can you say it is their fault entirely? |

I'm not sure I like this well they were stupid so they deserved it response. I mean, yeah, they were naive and they phrased a Xraiglist ad badly but does that mean they deserve to have irreplaceable personal possessions with emotional significance taken from them? They didn't leave the house open, these people broke in and took stuff. Sure the Craiglist ad said take whatever you want but if you have to break in you should have some inkling that what you are doing isn't right.
I guess what I'm saying is that it's a horrible idea that just because they were stupid they deserve to have this happen to them. If I was stupid enough to leave my laptop on display in my car does that mean I deserve to have it stolen? Sure it was stupid but does it justify what happened next? |

If they were giving away the furniture outside, why didn't the ad say "free couch and desk and chair" etc? The ad said "take whatever you want" |
