Monday, October 22, 2012 10:26:03 PM Fine, I'll debate that debating everything is a bad idea. I've been happily married over seven years now. My wife has this thing where she loves to debate everything, where I do not. Where this becomes an issue is when she tries to debate personal opinion. I like vanilla, she likes chocolate, I don't need to know why I'm wrong, because I can't be in such a situation. However this doesn't stop her from trying, which leads to more "debating" on how you can't debate a personal opinion. I should be bald by now but I've been pretty good at stopping her before she gets out of hand. |

Saturday, October 20, 2012 8:39:37 PM No. That was not useful. I agree @LordJim. Interesting and informative? Sure. But useful for "winning" debates? Not. |

Saturday, October 20, 2012 6:11:09 PM I remember I had to do a debate with a group while I was in high school. The topic was a recent law, stating that all Pitt-bulls have to wear a muzzle when in a public area. My team got the pro side (meaning we had to defend this law). It was really hard cause I didn't agree with it. Think we lost in the end, just because, like me, my class all thought it was wrong. It was really hard to try and convince them that this new law is a good thing, rather than assure them that they had the right idea. |

Saturday, October 20, 2012 2:42:46 PM "'If you don't respond to it, the sky is purple.' Quit watching after that idiotic statement." Of course. It's much easier to have a theory of argumentation in which you DON'T actually have to answer your interlocutor's points. *eye roll* |
