They couldn't get in the hole cos it was full of deep water, and the elephant would have freaked out even more, putting their lives at risk. You can't push a half ton baby elephant if you have nothing to stand on.

#1- why not carefully dig a ramp into the hole, instead of putting baby in jeopardy of possible injury?
#2- Isn't that messing with natural selection?
#3-What, no thank you from mom? How rude!

It reminds me of watching that first episode of whale wars... A circus of ineptitude.

No one said anything about crying, I didn't cry but I did get choked up a bit, as piper said. Elephants are some of the most amazing animals on the planet, very intelligent and highly evolved (for an animal). They've been observed to cry when sad (which is more than some IABers can say) and they gather to mourn their dead, even traveling many miles to return to the grave site years later. Some wild elephants even mourned a human friend.

R.I.P Gerry and trippyhippie's black hearts...and mine aparently. Yes it was lovely to watch and a lovely ending, but people who cry over this sort of stuff are usually the ones who cry, when a totally fictional character in a fictional show/film meets a fictional death...pathetic!
