Friday, October 19, 2012 10:06:32 PM @Profworm I hadn't heard of Jeff Loomis till your post. I'm listening to him on YouTube in another tab right now, and he's great! Thanks for the tip! |

Friday, October 19, 2012 10:01:15 PM Slash is kinda meh to me. He's certainly no god. When it comes to technical skill, he doesn't hold a candle to Batio, Satch, Vai, or Paul Gilbert, and creatively he's far short of Clapton, Page, Fripp, or Steve Howe. He's just a better-than-average picker, and that's about it. |

Friday, October 19, 2012 9:45:59 PM I'm not going to jump in on bashing Slash, because there's plenty of room in music for people who don't cater to my tastes. But if we're going to start listing off other great guitar players, I have to toss in Jeff Loomis. Great shredder, and he writes good music. Plus he doesn't cheat like Malmsteen and just repeat himself over and over. Not saying he's not incredibly skilled, but it all sounds the same. |

Ok patchouly, maybe replace rock god, with Icon. Either way, he's had a huge footprint in the rock world. Without a doubt he isn't the most technical or talented player. I also agree that he isn't in the same league as Paige or Clapton, but if I heard someone call him a rock god, I wouldn't argue. |

Friday, October 19, 2012 1:29:30 PM Jealous? No. Just aware of where he sits in the scheme of things. Also, as far as "rock Gods" go, I would say it take a certain degree of soul. So while Vai etc. can play fast, I have to agree with Smagboy in that I can only listen to so much of it. For me, it's players like Gilmour, Clapton, Page etc. that have the feel, unlike anyone else. Those guys are guitar gods. Slash, while a great guitar player, just never wrote any riffs that were worthy of that title. |

Friday, October 19, 2012 10:54:07 AM patchouly, I can play a bit, too. And I agree that Slash is only "good" compared to the many who are "great" or "god-like" (Vai, Tommy Emmanuel, etc.). That said, I can only take Vai, for example, for about two or three songs at a go before my head starts to hurt. Not because he can't play, obviously, but because there's something to be said for simpler, more melodic playing without all of the modal gymnastics. Slash may be playing to the proletariat, and Vai or Malmsteen to the gods, but I can listen to Slash or Page or Prince all day long--well, okay, maybe not, but certainly for longer than someone like Vai (who I love, by the way, don't get me wrong, but I just don't necessarily "like"). Anyway, point being, there's room for all kinds! |

Xelous - welp, I can't argue too much because I thought the whole preformance sounded kinda bad, compared to the studio version. I prefer alter bridge over this any day. Try this before you write off Myles kennedy. I am definately more of a metal music man, but Alter Brige is one of the better bands I hear on the local radio. |

Thursday, October 18, 2012 12:18:15 PM @Turdbulrglar I respectfully disagree and say that that Miles guy ruined their rock sound |

Thursday, October 18, 2012 12:16:50 PM Would be 100% better with Dave Grohl on the vocals and drums and guitar... |

Patchy - Jealous maybe? Few have had a larger influence, or more success in the world of rock. I'm not a much of guns or slash fan, but I'll give credit where it's due. Also, whats wrong with the hat? It's his thing I guess, still better than a ponytail. On another note, Myles Kennedy has one hell of a set of pipes. |

Thursday, October 18, 2012 11:36:46 AM Rock God?!? You're joking, right? Is it because of the hat? I've been a professional musician for over 26 years. I can safely say that Slash is a "Good" guitar player. Better than average but nothing to write home about and certain;y not a "Rock God". |

Thursday, October 18, 2012 11:05:03 AM Link: Mid-Day Musicology: Slash + Standing In The Sun [Rate Link] - Rock god Slash performs a song from his album, Apocalyptic Love. That top-hatted bad-ass still has it. |
