As others have said, bodybuilders use a paint/dye to darken their skin (if it isn't already dark) because it accentuates the definition of their muscles.
So why don't they go the whole 9 yards and have an artist use multiple colours? A skilled artist could use different colours to accentuate muscles much more effectively than a uniform dark brown paint job. |

He works in the construction industry and fell into a vat of woodstain. He kept his head out of the stain from survival instinct, despite being dazed from hitting his head on the side of the vat.
Despite the accident, he carried on with the competition he had the next day. What a trooper! |
