Thursday, October 11, 2012 10:31:20 AM @AvatarJohn "And corporations are just people who want to make something of themselves and contribute to society. But... brainwashed morons won't hear that." Wait... what? Is that the height of ignorance or brilliant trolling? Methinks it is you who is the brainwashed moron. |

Thursday, October 11, 2012 10:30:13 AM @AvatarJohn 'And corporations are just people...' Well, apparently that is the legal status in the US, but not really. As William Hazlitt put it; 'Corporate bodies are more corrupt and profligate than individuals, because they have more power to do mischief, and are less amenable to disgrace or punishment. They feel neither shame, remorse, gratitude, nor good-will. The principle of private or natural conscience is extinguished in each individual (we have no moral sense in the breasts of others), and nothing is considered but how the united efforts of the whole (released from idle scruples) may be best directed to the obtaining of political advantages and privileges to be shared as common spoil.' 1821 |

Thursday, October 11, 2012 4:26:01 AM AvatarJohn: The "benevolent corporation" is a myth. All corporations exist for one purpose; to generate profits for the shareholders. I'm not saying the system isn't working, it just bugs me when people try to romanticize it. |

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 11:51:57 PM @Gerry: "Clearly, this moving speach given some 80 year ago has had zero impact on the world" I saw that film for the first time when I was about ten, and that speech has been with me for the last thirty years. It's an essential truth. Zero impact? I beg to differ... |

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 11:45:06 PM Judging by the inane comments such as, "why are we any different than Hitler, Stalin, Khrushchev or Mao" and "smothered by the corporate sharks", I guess we all see what we want to see. Hint: We are the good guys. They are the bad guys. And corporations are just people who want to make something of themselves and contribute to society. But... brainwashed morons won't hear that. Sigh... Is Jan. 20 here yet? |

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 7:39:26 PM The internet loves this speech. Mervviscious - This speech is religious. You know, the one you're supporting. Hitler, however, was not really religious. He was more "Post-religious". This is rather established. Go read Hitler's table talks: http://archive.org/details/HitlersTableTalk |

Wednesday, October 10, 2012 5:55:01 PM The first time I saw Chaplin do the speech, it was a few hours after seeing American troops dropping napalm on villages in Viet Nam- I was maybe 10. When, in school, I asked why we were any different than Hitler, Stalin, Khrushchev or Mao, I was sent to the principals office, given detention and my parents were called to report my 'disruptive behavior'. Crap really started to click into place for me. |
