all I'm saying is that the beef should be with the government, not Iranians.

Ummm and what about thoes that support that government? OH you thought thoes didn't exist...

Hmmm seems like actually alot do and if they get nuke we've got a nuclear war on our hand with them and Isreal. Keep your head in the sand though.

Can you *possibly* blame any of them for taking a dim view of U.S. Foreign policy? The U.S. Government is unequivocally responsible for the lunatics running their country. The People of Iran *were* a functioning democracy. That didn't jive with us because they had the clout and resources to tell us to drat off, so we helped topple their government and reinstate a Goddamn Theocracy. The fact that the People of Iran are willing to give the People of the United States some credit as being decent folks speaks to their upstanding character.

"Interesting viewpoint. How long were you there?"

2 weeks.

Okay, admitedly my perspective is skewed. I judge the country not on the people, they don't run it. I judge it based on it's governement. It really doesn't matter how nice some school teacher is if his Government has vowed death to Isreal.

Iran is a litterbox and the turds need cleaned out.

You know, I have to admit it, they really did make me think about how much we over rate these people. They are living their lives one day at a time, just like most of us. Oh, by the way, Thanks, Obama.... (dick)

@davymid "I'm a geologist working for a major multinational oil company."

I always wanted to ask this; Does it ever bother you that you're helping these companies? Now I know you're not the one dumping the waste but you're definitely 'helping to hold the hose' so to speak.

I'm a stationary engineer that builds recycling plants and reclamation facilities that clean up the garbage your employers produce. There's even less money in that but I sleep well at night.

Who has those stereotypes about Iranians? I've only met a few myself, but they were all very nice. Their leaders are bat$#!+ crazy fanatic @$$holes, but they don't have popular support.

I think there's been a misunderstanding here. I suspect we agree with each other more than we disagree.

The worst part about your travel elitism is that most people in the entire world cannot even afford to travel as much as you say you have. You are, truly, the one percent. And I bet you think Romney is out of touch? LOL.

I'm a geologist working for a major multinational oil company. All the travel I've done has been on my employer's dime, I couldn't afford it. I assure you, I'm not in the 1%, nor to I mean to come across as a "travel elitist". I've been lucky, that's all.

Besides, which Irishman would deliberately travel on vacation to Iran (or Libya, or Saudi Arabia, etc). Those are all dry countries, FFS!

Anyways, no harm no foul, I didn't mean to be a douche. Just asking that people don't buy into propaganda. And speaking of gay people in Iran, I agree with you - all I'm saying is that the beef should be with the government, not Iranians.

vv Woah Andrew. I'm not trying to be a douche. I just mean that more people should experience these different cultures for themselves instead of taking everything they know of a place from the media. I'm from Northern Ireland, a beautiful place, but people will always associate it with terrorism, because of the media.

All I mean is, one should try to experience a culture different from their own before judging it. I was responding to the sentiment expressed by Gerry below (and knowing Gerry, he was parodying what many people think like).

Davymid, you are quite the douche about traveling. I have lived outside of the United States for 5 years of my life and speak Russian, Spanish, and German. Is this adequate travel for you?

The worst part about your travel elitism is that most people in the entire world cannot even afford to travel as much as you say you have. You are, truly, the one percent. And I bet you think Romney is out of touch? LOL.

Let's reduce it down to this, gay people are afraid to be openly gay in Iran. I know plenty of Iranians, they tend to be very normal and typical people. But then they have an authoritarian regime that has support from enough of them - exactly how many is unknown. A comparison with ordinary Germans, or even Wehrmacht soldiers, as opposed to the Nazis, is not out of line here. Everybody knows there are differences. Come off it, mate.

vv With you 110% Osiris. I've been there many times, Tehran, Qom, Esfahan, Bandar Abbas... and the Iranian people are some of the most selfless, friendly, accommodating people Ive ever met (and I've been to more places than most). Say what you like about their government, but the Iranian people are good people.

Americans need to travel more.

Slow your roll Gerry... I lived in Iran briefly, as a child. I have kept in contact with friends there for over 30 years, first by good, old-fashioned letter writing, and now with the advent of Facebook, I've tracked down a person who was one of my best friends there.

Generally, Iranians do not hate Americans wholesale... in fact, most agree that the issue is not our respective populations, but the fact that both of our governments operate like the Keystone Kops.

There is nothing terrifying about Iran... it's actually a beautiful country. I wish things were better between our respective governments, I'd go for a visit immediately, and take a bunch of you along to see for yourselves.

They are certainly not "all terrorists {or terrorist supporters}".

I know this, because I've lived among them... still speak Farsi fluently to this day.

It's kinda sad that the only non-propaganda fueled piece on Iran aired on Comedy Central.

I love humor, and the Daily Show, but take your libretard agenda and shove it.

It is a terrifying place.
The people all do hate us.
They are all terrorists {or terrorist supporters}.
and
I don't have anything in common with them.

A kid dressed in American garb is exactly my stereotype of so many people in the 3rd world. I have seen Eastern Europeans where hats from the Florida Gators. If you say GO GATORS, they don't have idea what you're talking about.

The scene with the cigarettes and the little girl reminds me of an exchange I did in Costa Rica. I went to go stay with a host family that had a 8 yr old. I wanted to take some gifts with me to show him American culture so I got looney toons stuffed animals. When I got there the kid was dressed head to toe in nike, his room was bigger than mine, and he had every N64 game I'd ever seen (this was 1999). Funny how far off our stereotypes are sometimes.

I never thought that "all" Iranians are terrorists. I don't like it when people misleadingly generalize like this. The point is that it is rather irrelevant whether or not most Iranians are liberal, Jeffersonian democrats or radical muslims, the people in power are radical and they can compel enough of the population to do very bad things.

Killing Iranians isn't worth dying for, though. So let them kill the Jews (there is enough historical precedent for this, so don't act like we are "above" that in this time in history), we'll take the Jews that are left and destroy their entire navy, air force, and oil producing capabilities in just a few days if they dare attack - and then go back home. That's how it should be done.
