Wednesday, October 03, 2012 1:30:43 PM @MacGuffin: Well, those are some lofty goals. I've often wondered if having referendums or props on everything would be good, because one reason we elect people is (ostensibly) because most people know nothing about things like economics, law, etc. and we assume politicians do. I believe there is an essential split, because the end result of everybody votes on everything is mob rule where nothing gets done. I like the bit about holding politicians accountable, but that wouldn't be easy to do unless you stipulate that they must achieve the promises they make, in which case after one conviction you'd see a large decrease in the quantity and quality of promises. As for your third, anyone can run in an election, the problem is actually getting people to vote for you. But I wish you luck in finding Utopia, let me know if you find it. |

Blah, blah, bitch, blah, america sucks, blah, I'm so smart, blah blah blah. Your angry internet words won't fix anything. You may fantasize that your bitchin will open the eyes of the world. In reality, you are just a sad, pale, arrogant european trying to feel better about yourself by pointing out what you think is wrong with others. Almost 2,000 comments posted in 6 months. Most all are negative "I hate america" comments. The odds of changing American policy with your internet comments are as likely as this comment is to shut your mouth. |

Wednesday, October 03, 2012 11:05:14 AM It's a bit ironic you would say that macguffin. You bitch more than anyone else here. Who here is bitching to YOU about an unfair system? I get to bitch about how sh|t the current system is, because I don't help perpetuate it by my participation. |

* Any politician that gets elected on a policy and who subsequently fails to even try and implement that policy (e.g., Obama's promise to make amends for past atrocities by the American military and intelligence services, and to release photos of same) gets convicted of fraud and serves an appropriate custodial sentence at The Hague. No "ifs". No "Buts". If you got elected to public office on the back of promising to do something and you fail to even try, you're a criminal and a fraudster and you deserve to do serious time. * When choosing my President or Prime Minister, I want to be able to choose between more than just the two or three richest guys that could afford to run an election campaign on the back of all the lobbyist's money they receive and whose interests they represent. That'd do for starters. How about you?

Wednesday, October 03, 2012 11:01:37 AM @MacGuffin: Just out of curiosity, what exactly would be the system of governance that you would endorse? One featuring at least these characteristics: * Voters are asked their opinion more often than just once every four or five years. And their opinion is sought on more than just the question of "who do you want to rule you as a dictator for the next half decade?". This is the age of instantanious communication, the internet, iPhone Apps and biometrics. Surely it's not beyond the wit of government to implement a system of polling public opinion on issues of day-to-day importance if they really wanted to? I guess they must not really want to. ... |

Tuesday, October 02, 2012 10:04:04 PM From a non-american looking at your voting system, its utterly retarded. The whole election gets decided by ten states it seems. How is that fair? No wonder your turnout is so appallingly low. Why not just have a popular vote for President like every other country in the world? |

Tuesday, October 02, 2012 8:10:32 PM Electoral College = Vote doesn't count. Although I don't understand the point of the EC...If you're going to count the votes anyway...why not just let those votes actually be the deciding factor. |

Tuesday, October 02, 2012 3:57:33 PM And if you *do* vote and the politicians do whatever the hell they want anyway after they've conned you by telling you whatever you wanted to hear, still STFU because I don't want to hear you bitching about the lack of fairness in the system you perpetuate by your gullible participation. |
