Tuesday, October 02, 2012 10:26:58 PM McDonnell-Douglas F4. Tail configuration is a dead giveaway. Not hard to identify at all. |

Tuesday, October 02, 2012 6:35:37 AM They are big, but the Navy had a variant that was carrier based. We used to find them in the sky by the black smoke trails they left behind....like an old Harley:) |

Tuesday, October 02, 2012 4:42:01 AM F4 Phantom, not that hard. Especially the layout of the tailplanes is a dead give-away. |

Monday, October 01, 2012 10:36:38 PM These planes are no longer made, but when they were it was in St. Louis. The factory is still there, next to Lambert airport, but they are building F-18 Hornets, F-15 Eagles and others. |

Monday, October 01, 2012 10:27:32 PM I found it. It's a McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR2 (F-4M). Notice that the wings are hinged to fold up, meaning it was carrier-based. I saw the Blue Angels back in the early '70s when they were flying F-4Js. Those things are freakin' monsters. |

Monday, October 01, 2012 10:05:40 PM My husband's guess is an F-4 Phantom. Vietnam war era? Sometimes used as drones now? Something like that. |

Monday, October 01, 2012 8:21:13 PM It's a phantom. RAF. It doesn't have the M-61 20-mm gatling gun under the chin; it might be a reconnaissance job, but I think the Brits' F-4s (FG-1/FGR-2) typically didn't have it. This is either an old photo, or a rich hobbyist. It's only carrying fuel tanks and two intert (fake) missiles, the blue tube in the Sparrow slots. |
