Monday, October 01, 2012 11:29:48 AM 'Pouring it into a cup in view of the customer draws attention to the huge markup.' My local bistro pours my wine from a bottle, although the mark up is only about 80%. How is it different? |

Monday, October 01, 2012 7:26:52 AM Actually, that's a pretty good McDonald's. They went to the trouble to get some 2 liters. Most McDonald's restaurants in my area would just "We outta Coke." And on a similar topic, has ANYONE ever been a McDonald's when the ice cream machine was actually working? |

Saturday, September 29, 2012 6:47:11 PM Why, exactly? I'll give my answer, which might or might not be the same as OldOllie's answer. Pouring it into a cup in view of the customer draws attention to the huge markup. It's basically saying "hey hey hey! We're selling you this drink at 10 times what we paid for it! Sucker!" Which, of course, is what happens all the time. It's just a matter of how obviously it's being done. |

Saturday, September 29, 2012 4:23:55 PM Even if they didn't run out, Coke frequently has to service the fountain. Even if it doesn't break, they have to do quality checks every so often and they need to shut the system down. No big deal. |

Saturday, September 29, 2012 10:40:21 AM It's like CaptainPat said. Sometimes you run out of something (in this case, fountain syrup), and then your boss gets your attention, slips you a $20 and tells you to go to the nearby grocery and buy some to tide you over until you get another shipment in. I worked at a Big Boy. |
