Your "Too bad he didn't die" post says a lot about your love of humanity. I respect Canada and have been deployed with Canadians. I just assumed that you "immigrated" there around the Viet Nam era. We don't draft retards either. Your country fought along side us in the 1991 Gulf war which was only about OIL. Also in WWI, WWII, Korea, Kosovo, and Afghan. Outa here... |

What I find strange about this video is three things:
1) He doesn't seem to have a battle buddy with him.
2) He's standing up in the open most of the time before he gets shot instead of staying low and finding cover.
3) After he gets shot, instead of laying down behind the large rock, he lays back next to it, even while taking fire.
I don't know the specifics of what on in this video but those seemed like poor choices. Regardless, props to the guy for taking 4 rounds and makin it out relatively unscathed. |

Weird enough he doesn't seem to be aiming any of his shots. At all? Shoots a burst in one random part of the mountain then another. But after all we aren't seeing -exactly- as he is. |

@antagonizer - Not having experience in a situation such as this DOES negate someone's ability to have a clear picture of what's going on in order to put together a well thought out argument/opinion.
According to the description of the video, they were providing "overwatch" which means they're covering another unit that's maneuvering to a better position, possibly flanking, the enemy. Covering fire is meant to make the enemy keep their heads down so they can't shoot at your buddies who may be moving out in the open. That's why they're up on the ridge, you can see everything and have clear firing lines. His only real mistake was silhouetting himself on that ridge by not staying low to the ground. Lucky for him the majority of Taliban fighters can't shoot worth a sh*t! There's really no one, except the people who actually there during this particular fight, who can gather enough info from a sh*tty helmet-cam. |

those Westboro Church f*cks should have to suck this guy's nuts. Politics of war aside, those guys are doing what their country asked of them, no matter how difficult and stressful (mild terms, I should say), and no matter how politically charged the mission. |

Hey, I respect the heck out of our troops, and I'm not even going to pretend to critique what is in this video. I am curious about one thing: Why is there a video, apparently from a combat situation, on the Internet? I assume his videos go through some sort of clearance process?
It just seems like the sort of footage you don't send to bad guys or have Geraldo reveal, etc. I don't want the Taliban to know how U.S. soldiers are trained to react in a firefight.
Forgive the comparison, but even in football, coaches spend hours reviewing any footage of the other team they can find to look for weaknesses and patterns that can be exploited. And that's a game. This is (as those four shots so clearly demonstrate) a life or death situation.
I value freedom of speech and freedom of expression, but I can't help but think having footage of this sort openly available presents a potential danger for our troops. Am I wrong on this? |

@whodat6484 Although I agree that people who've never experienced combat have no concept of the mechanics of it, it doesn't negate their ability to have an opinion and from the point of view of the camera, it appears he's made some serious judgment errors. You may not agree, or even like what they're saying but didn't you "fight for their right to say it"? |

@USAF27 - I'm with you brother, I'm a Marine vet with 5 (OEF/OIF) combat deployments.
All the FPS Xbox warriors who are saying sh*t like "He's an example of what not to do" and "he can't operate while under fire" need to shut the f*ck up. If you've never been in combat or even in the military you have no room to talk. There's absolutely no way for you to understand what goes on in a firefight and the fact that every single split-second decision you have to make is a matter of life and death. If you don't know, those "crack" & "snap" sounds are the rounds coming at him, passing over his head. I'd like to see how quick you'd all sh*t your pants when the bullets start flying. Keep in mind this sh*t is REAL, there's no time limit and no re-spawning. |

You can't really tell how steep the hill is because he is looking down the slope, what a terrible situation he found himself in, no cover enemy has a bead on him, he has no idea where fire is coming from., |
