With iOS6, just go to safari and put maps.google.com and you can add the link onto your phone as if it's an app... When you click on the google map "app", or link, it'll just take you to safari and it's the exact same thing...
I downloaded the new iOS6 and didn't realize they took off google maps, and with the new map app that they are going with, it literally got me lost for like 20 min... It's pretty much B.S.
They only took off google maps because google is their competition with the android market...
