Monday, September 24, 2012 6:20:15 AM Great song and band. Amazing to find it posted here, such an obscure part of my memories from when I was young. LOL at the dude who dares question the punk credentials of THIS band. |

Sunday, September 23, 2012 6:14:00 PM "So punk to you guys is a bunch of skinny heroin addicts with no shirts blasting redundant crap-rock ad nauseum to the point that you can get thousands of half-in-the-bag college kids to chant your beer-hall lyrics in unison?" Are you an idiot? You must be. Ian MacKaye here wrote the song that inspired straight edge (and while he dislikes the militant mindset that has cropped up in the years since, he himself does not do drugs or drink). These are guys who disdain violence, sexism, racism, corruption...you name it. They're anti-music-establishment to a fault, put out all of their records DIY and refused to play shows that weren't affordable. Music, politics, ethics, and a loud "drat you" to the status quo--that's punk. These guys are punk. To think otherwise is to be incredibly misinformed. |

Sunday, September 23, 2012 1:32:27 PM So punk to you guys is a bunch of skinny heroin addicts with no shirts blasting redundant crap-rock ad nauseum to the point that you can get thousands of half-in-the-bag college kids to chant your beer-hall lyrics in unison? And here I thought punk was supposed to be about anti-establishment & mainstream disillusion... |

Sunday, September 23, 2012 12:57:10 PM Chris_Red, I think in this case, in the case of Billie Joe Vs. Ian, it's pretty easy to define. |

Sunday, September 23, 2012 12:48:28 PM Here we go with the defining of punk and whatnot. You like a band or you don't, end of story. |

Sunday, September 23, 2012 12:17:02 PM Link: Mid-Day Musicology: Fugazi + Waiting Room [Live] [Rate Link] - Billie Joe Amrstrong's f*ck-ladden rant yesterday WAS NOT PUNK. Fugazi is punk. No profanity, no broken guitars. |
