If you play it backwards it looks like they're snorting a bunch of coloured cocaine and moving at really high speeds only attainable when on cocaine.

It's not like stuffing wild animals at all. One takes a work that stems from another's process while the other kills and stuffs a once living creature.
@Thonious - why is it that the process is where the beauty lies? We don't engage in the process so we can not benefit from the experience. However once the project is complete we can view it and apply it to our own experiences, likes and dislikes. People often throw out this line about "the process" because they think it sounds deep and philosophical but I don't buy it. I think it is the finished piece that can bring the most joy to the world. We can't all watch Van Gogh paint something but we can send the painting all around the world so that all can enjoy it.

Spraying it with glue and placing it under glass would be like stuffing wild animals for display because you want to save them forever.

Most people fail to appreciate that the beauty is not in the product, it's in the process.

Have see massive mandalas in the monesteries. You want to preserve that beauty, it's difficult thing to watch when it's swept away. Whole process is slow, pedantic with a finality that is meaningfully memorable.
This vid though was like watching a beehive. The music was wrong and they were standing ( traditionally done on the floor) there was no sense calm.
Mandala was so pretty though.

I would spray it with fixative and put a glass top on that table. There choice was to pour the sand into a river so that the whole world is magically more peaceful. I didn't even know I was more peaceful until I saw this.

I have seen the actual construction and ritual destruction of several mandalas - and have seen over two dozen otherwise. It's an amazing tradition.

What this video - due to its rapidity - doesn't show is that the destruction of a mandala is highly deliberate. Specific areas of the mandala are destroyed before others - all with a purpose that is only partly known to me.

As the video shows, the sands are then scattered through water, but the reason for this is not only to carry the blessings to all the world's people. It's also so that the sands cannot be used again - requiring that each mandala be created uniquely and that the earth's gifts are given back to it.

Link: Creation Of A Sand Mandala Made By Monks [Rate Link] - Buddhist monks spend days creating an intricate mandala using colored sands, before destroying it in seconds.
