So, we're all on board with government force to "correct" perceived social ills. And, of course, if a law is passed, then obesity will end overnight because that's how those things work . . . kind of like Prohibition and the War on Drugs. |

You can't make the argument that fat people cost us money, because they die younger, which saves us money. Don't like that statement? Just see how smoking saves us money too:

This is so absurd I do not even know where to start. I vote we shorten the work and school day, decrease traffic and the time spent commuting then add more green space and greater public safety so people can actually get out. Also, lower the cost of healthy foods. I just paid $10 for a salad. Blaming obesity on something so simple as soda size and the person is beyond simple minded. Dumb politicians. And if people choose to be fat it is their choice. I think people over the age 55 cost Americans more in healthcare costs than than anyone else.... watch out Mayor... |

Orange juice is also a sugary beverage containing 3 grams sugar / oz to coke's 3.25 g sugar/ oz. (and from a fountain, with ice probably back down to 3 g/oz). Apple juice is the same in terms of sugar/oz as coke.
So, in the interest of preventing obesity, they should also come under scrutiny.
Ban fruit juice, for the sake of the kids, ban it now! |

You still can't bring a coke from the store into the movie theater. Also it's ridiculous to go into McDonalds with a large bottle in your hand. Off course they can't ban you from eating ridiculous amounts of sugar, but it's a start.
