Tuesday, January 18, 2005 8:24:15 AM I was amused that they told you how to blow people off, like leaving two cents as a tip when the service is really bad, or telling someone who's trying to sell you a religion that you believe in God "only on Tuesdays and Thursdays." |

Tuesday, January 18, 2005 8:00:12 AM The peace sign reversed thing dates back to bows & arrows times in England. It's basically telling the other person that you'll cut those two fingers from their hand, preventing them from using their bow & arrow. Saw it on Discovery Channel or was is History? |

Tuesday, January 18, 2005 7:53:44 AM "The word trillion means a 1 followed by 12 zeros, a British billion. The word billion means a 1 followed by 9 zeros, a British milliard."I learned something new today! |

Tuesday, January 18, 2005 7:39:50 AM How is "Do you believe in God?" a rhetorical question? This site is fun...interesting to see some of the things we don't think about because they're culturally ingrained in us, but need to be learned by those who aren't from here. |

Monday, January 17, 2005 7:54:18 PM "Eye contact is also important. It is not a sign of disrespect, but instead an indication of openness, honesty, and enthusiasm."I had no idea that eye contact was a sign of disrespect in other places. I have traveled out of the country and consider myself a fairly well educated person, and not an ethnocentric boob, but I had no idea... "It is extremely impolite to blow smoke in someone's face." You mean there are places where it is not impolite to blow smoke in someone's face? " If you are approached by a recruiter for a cult or religious group, do not make eye contact, do not engage in conversation, and keep walking. They will often ask you a rhetorical question to open the conversation, such as "Do you believe in god?". Either ignore them, or respond with something that will fluster them enough to let you get past, such as "only on Tuesdays and Thursdays"" lol...that's awesome... |

Monday, January 17, 2005 6:32:33 PM The inverse peace sign is a European and Australian thing as far as I know. I think Bush Sr. once visited Australia and gave a backwards peace sign by mistake and inadvertently offended a lot of people. |

Monday, January 17, 2005 5:12:41 PM Wow, I'm American and I didn't even know some of that. Hmm. Maybe it's 'cause I'm 15...I thought it was cool that they explained the stereotypes and how most American's aren't ass****s. |

Monday, January 17, 2005 4:29:41 PM I'm sure there are sites out there on how to gesture-insult anyone in any country...I think this site is a good review for most of us in the U.S.... reminders of common curtesies... thou there shoulda been a section on hygiene.

Monday, January 17, 2005 12:56:11 PM Is the inverse of the peace sign an insult over there, or is that just over here? |
