Monday, September 10, 2012 7:23:54 AM When we were students in 1991, my materialistic girlfriend said she needed a laptop (her well to do study group all had them). Back then, the average laptop cost about GBP3300. That was like a second hand car and we could barely afford to eat. Pooling my bar tips and then repeatedly selling my body for painful and dangerous scientific experiments (not kidding), I scraped together about GBP300 and bought her the cheapest thing that would run a lightweight office package called Lotus Symphony. The thing had 1MB of RAM for OS, software and storage, but it also had a battery life of 30 hours! She left me and found a richer guy. Or rather, left me and I found a better woman. |
