Tuesday, September 04, 2012 10:31:39 AM It's not perpetual motion because the magnets are producing force, and the magnets will probably wear out over time meaning it is actually losing energy over time. This is just taking energy from an EMF field and turning it into motion. |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 10:22:30 AM It is somewhat real. These machines are built using extremely low friction bearings or other points of rotation. The wheel would spin for a very long time by itself without an external magnet. Eventually these machines do stop, and no work can be extracted from them if they are to keep running |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 10:05:47 AM @patchouly I thought that too, but as we continue to develop stronger and stronger magnets mightn't this be "proof of concept" at least? @Cajun247 Bearings can be replaced. "Perpetual motion" doesn't imply that the machine must LAST forever... just that it can run itself continuously without energy input, which this appears to be doing. @Langer Batteries? Where do you see batteries? Those are permanent rare-earth magnets. @Kain1 You sound like a zealot, "I don't know WHY this can't work, but my philosophy says it is impossible so it must be fake!" Why not put a little thought into a problem before posting your assertions, eh? |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 9:58:08 AM It could "work" as a conversation piece on someone's desk. It couldn't work to power a car or train or anything productive. |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 9:29:00 AM This is a scam, pure and simple. Perpetual motion machines are impossible. I'm not exactly sure how they rigged it, but trust me, they did rig it with some sort of energy source, an electric motor or something like that. Perpetual motion contradicts both the law of energy conservation and the second law of thermodynamics.. |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 9:14:20 AM I'm really bad at catching this kind of stuff out, but I'm having a difficult time debunking this. Stick a SIMPLE generator to it and see what it does; but make it a simple one, like a magnet spinning coupled directly to a single bulb or something, something that can be shown to not be a power source in itself. 'Til then, I'll just watch from the sidelines. |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 9:11:03 AM @Cajun247 With this logic my car is perpetual, until it runs out of gas. |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 9:07:00 AM @5cats Rare earth magnets, such as neodymium, are estimated to hold a magnetic field for 400 years. Heat would be the only issue I can see. |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 8:44:56 AM Damned clever. Not sure it will ever actually generate any power, but damned clever all the same. |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 8:15:16 AM not to mention the electrical charge needed for all those batteries, and subsequent batteries that will replace those first ones |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 8:14:06 AM Since it's based on magnets, it will eventually "lose magnetism" and stop. You'd need massively powerful magnets to get any "work" out of it, and it's not perpetual. |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 8:07:23 AM Not sure exactly why, but I'm sure this won't work. The reason may be found here. There are lots of interesting attempts listed on that site, including some magnetic wheels, but I don't see this particular one offhand. Perhaps this one is new and should be submitted to the Musem of Unworkable Devices for analysis. There's a flaw there, trust me. |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 8:07:16 AM Interesting, but the bearings would still wear out. So no, not really a perpetual motion machine. |

Tuesday, September 04, 2012 7:57:36 AM It is cool, but as soon as you strap a generator to it, the magnetic resistance of the generator will drain the kinetic energy and eventually stop it from turning. Sorry folks. The laws of physics still stand. No free energy here. |
