Thursday, August 30, 2012 5:13:40 PM @LorJim & @Misfit-Mutt: True, those would help reduce wood-use, but far from a replacement, eh? |

Thursday, August 30, 2012 1:25:11 AM Here's a thought experiment: We are putting too much carbon in the air from burning oil, which we pull from the ground. Trees convert carbon in the air into wood mass. We cut down trees for paper products. Trees grow back. It would then be better to send that paper into a landfill to bury the carbon back into the ground. Instead we burn more oil to recycle the paper. Thoughts? |

Thursday, August 30, 2012 12:28:03 AM I take the minecraft approach to forestry....it's fine to take down a few trees - but it would be really bad to take down all the trees before having a strategy to replace them. Replant at least 1 for every one you take down though, and save some large, established forests for other animals.

Wednesday, August 29, 2012 11:23:22 PM @RytWing: Nice fur coats that Europeans won't buy... It's a joke Canadians (and especially Newfoundlanders) will understand! @jamie76: What should replace wood? Plastic? Please enlighten me! Seriously, this is your chance to shine! If you can propose a realistic alternative to wood (and pulp) products I WILL compliment you! Of course if you fail, or remain silent... *sigh* |

Wednesday, August 29, 2012 9:56:55 PM @Jamie I am in no way a republican, I did get stung by a bee as a child and I wish nature no ill will still. Yet I still agree with CrakrJak and anyone else saying that it's necessary to cut down a tree so that humans may live better lives. After all a tree may take dozens of years to grow but a house made of them will last just as long if not longer |

Wednesday, August 29, 2012 9:21:49 PM jamie76: Since you're so committed to saving trees, why don't you lead by example and go back to living in a cave. Or perhaps you should realize that lumber is a renewable resource and quit being a left-wing ideologue tool. |

Wednesday, August 29, 2012 9:14:19 PM notice the republican member's of tis bored (see what I did there)and jumping to and defending the actions depicted in this painting. To people like there is nothing but black and white. they cannot understand responsibility or how to balance how we live with nature in a better way...I think they are the types that once got stung by a bee as a child and vowed revenge on all of nature...nah that is too deep...they are just pricks. |

Wednesday, August 29, 2012 8:22:49 PM For sure: lets all go back to living in trees! Oh wait: is it ironic that this is painted on the side of a building? |
